a vote for deep water tuition as well perhaps?

I'm down with that...risk of death? yup, comes with the package deal...

Kyle, you're attacking an avatar? A bit Quixotic for an authority figure, don't ya think?

try contributing...

think positive, endorse something, do it for kiting...

Thanks
fo

Rhetoric and argument contribute little.
I give some facts to think about, for any who care,
and characterize a risky move
in a way that denotes the risk: death.
And fo, facts are facts, not grist for a junior rhetoric mill.
That's all.

so i was going to stay out of this...but what the heck...

fo's argument that helmets actually make kiting more dangerous is so ridiculous that he must be just pulling your legs to try and rile you up. Granted certain helmet designs might cause injury such as the bill on one of them, I would need to see some hard evidence. But the argument that a helmet is going to increase the surface area of your head and make you hit harder (and because of the increased circumference break your neck) is absolutely the worst argument I have ever heard against not wearing a helmet. Fo, I really hope you are joking about that one... If anything, the smooth surface should reduce drag on entry (assuming you could even measure the difference), unless perhaps you are talking about the helmet 'bucketing' when someone hits face first. But if the helmet is designed for water sports, that will have been designed out years ago. If not, then get a helmet designed for the sport you are doing.

that said, Fo is right that anytime there is an injury, everyone all of a sudden becomes a 'safety expert'. I use it as a good reminder to sit back and reweigh the risks. This time, I went and bought a new helmet (my old one was so worn out I had stopped wearing it). Nothing I do is really considered 'safe' it seems, even surfing is pretty dangerous if you think about the weight of the water on top of you during some of those big freight trains that crash down. But I think as long as you go into something knowing the risks, and not endangering anyone else, you're being relatively safe.

anyway, i think i lost the main theme of this thread, so I'll shut up again.

sorry, Not kidding,

ever see a diver wear one?

The increase in surface area translates to and increase in surface area...what can I say?

you see there's always something, no free lunch here either . there are helmets that are as streamlined as they can be though.(Gath?)

I've nothing against helmets, I just don't happen to wear one that's all.

I see on the you tube thread where the new Ozone Speed Wings are super safe...

SWEET !!! looks like shin graurds or chaps might come in handy though.

Back to helmets, the neck snapping thing only applies to the somewhat forgiving stuff you can slam into with gusto and have a chance of surviving:

Like water, it's the only functional downside I know of, so don't think I'm dissin helmets.

regards
fo
