Tue Mar 17, 09 1:06 am Replace my bar? |
|
|
| I have an 11m Waroo. The stitching on the chicken loop blew out . I can still use it but have rope holding it all together. Im wondering if its worth replacing or if I should just get a new bar? If I get a new one, what kind of bars can you use on an '07 kite? Ive seen a '07 20" Slingshot fuel bar for around $150...but not sure if it would work. |

How good of a swimmer are you? You don't want to be somewhere precarious when it all blows up... Just about any SLE bar will work, Slingshot Rev, Liquid Force Havoc, Royal Bar, etc.

Couple of things you need to look at when mixing bars & kites.
1. Throw: the throw of the bar must be close to the throw of the original bar. (Throw is how far the bar can slide on the center rope. ) If the throw is not long enough, you won't have all of the depower available. If the throw is too long, you risk an inversion if you sheet out too far.
2. Tuning: Most kites are designed so that the lines should be equal length when fully sheeted in. You need to verify that your kite is designed so, and tune your bar accordingly.
3. Safety system: Some bars use a back line for the safety line, some use a front line. You need to verify that your kite is compatible with that. If it's the same as the stock bar, you're golden. If it's different, maybe not so much. The manufacturers test that the kite de-powers properly on the line they use. The kite may not behave well if it's flagged to a different line. It may do great, it may not.
4. Safety throw: Some bars have a device which will limit the throw of the safety line. (Limits how far the bar can travel up the line.) You need to verify that the throw of the safety line is compatible with your kite.
5. Bar length: If the bar isn't long enough, you may not be able to turn the kite as fast as you wish. If the bar is too long, it's possible that the kite might fly a bit twitchy. (Turn a bit faster than you want.)
6. De-power throw: Generally not a problem with below the bar trim systems. With above the bar trim, you need to verify the de-power throw available is compatible with your kite. |

| I'm using the ocean rodeo sle bar on my 12m Waroo. No Problems. I just checked that with the bar in full power position the 4 lines are equal length. |
