I just wanted to point out something the CGKA is doing for you. Before you read the rest of this post, we need you to consider renewal of your membership. Please visit http://new.cgka.net/Membership.aspx to sign up.
Please visit http://www.portofhoodriver.com/info/agenda.php and scroll down to item 7f.
Now that this information is public I wanted to post about it. This vote is expected to pass on Tuesday evening and then Jim Grady, CGKA President, will post more about the trials and tribulations that we've been battling for you.

Way to go guys! I've always said (in many waterfront meetings back in the days we fought to get lot 6 out of a Bend developer's hands) that the event site should become the new kiting site and windsurfers should have an upwind launch on the west end of lot 6. OK, so it's on the east end of the park now (downwind of the swim area), but I windsurfed there all last year and am looking forward to kiting at the event site before long.
You guys also have the benefit of a more progressive Port Director... this wouldn't have happened 5 years ago. Keep this in mind when board vacancies are announced and/or elections are held... (vote or die! ) |

Now the question is, is something actually going to happen?? From what I know of the port from the last few years, doubt it! Thanks for putting in work tho. _________________ I heart dangling |

Here are some other things the CGKA has done as of now:
Stevenson beach cleanup.
Sandbar cleanup.
Lyle cleanup.
Sauvie cleanup.
Kept the Event Site open for launching and landing till the end of April.
Can year round pump and dry in our own area!
Board members have been to many Port meetings, State of Oregon parks and rec. Waterfront committee, and are members of the Spit renewal committee. We are making good headway with the Port and other groups.
We have exciting things in the works for several sites up and down the gorge. More to be announced on those in upcoming months.
We put together the Blowout race and helped sponsor many other local events.
Plus Burgers! mmmm Burgers! We cooked many a burger last year.
So definitely renew your $20 membership.
This year you will get all the above plus a CGKA sticker for your window or board. You will also get a wrist band to all the cookouts that entitles you to Burgers....mmmm Burgers!
Remember the board members are all volunteers giving our time and gas money to help open new areas for kiting. Help be part the solution. _________________ Cleverly disguised as an adult...

Aw, don't be entirely pessimistic. The Port is charged with economic development, and the entire waterfront has been designated as a light industrial park since the early 1960s. It has cost the Port lots of money, but a small group of dedicated citizens managed to get them to transfer lots 6 and 7 to City ownership, and the people have been working to raise a target of ~$500K from a seed fund of $8K of personal money. Even entertainment of the thought of kiting at the Event Site likely wouldn't have happened without this.
Would you rather see 65-foot-tall condos and shops there? That's what was on the table just a few years ago! (Imagine how 'booming' that development would be in today's economy...).
By the way, did anyone attend the Waterfront Park fundraiser party Saturday night? Was there a decent turnout?
(Not to get too far OT from the CGKA's hard work and efforts, mind you, sorry.) |

| I understand Ian's view, but lets focus on what's happening now, not what has happened in the past. |

| Lyle cleanups are a joke. The water rises and falls so much on a daily basis that nothing can actually be "cleaned up". I think the CGKA should stop doing this and focus the cleanup to somewhere that actually needs it. |

Yeah I think we are all agree on that one.
Where should we focus a cleanup on thats not on the list? You can always pm any suggestions or come to the meeting the 2nd Friday of the month and let us know what your thinking. |

We hauled off a trailer full of trash. I wouldn't say that's a joke. The CGKA is no longer focusing on Lyle and you'll be hard pressed to even get us to talk about it on this forum. If you're curious, talk with me in person.
The CGKA is working hard to improve access across the entire Gorge. If people have a wide variety of decent places to launch, then they won't be crowding up your favorite beach. It's important for our membership to grow so we have funds to improve other Launches, which benefits everyone regardless of their use of these new improved launches.
This supports your views Josh, albeit in an indirect way... You're opinion is appreciated and respected, just like your membership fee. Speaking of which, are you a member? |

I tried to pay for the Basic Family. I figured what a deal considering our family! But paypal would only accept $20. So we really got a deal!! Send me a PM and I'll ante-up but I thought I would let you know so you could check all of the rates.
If you think beach access is a joke, think again. The Jupiter to Ft. Lauderdale race has been cancelled and may be a thing of the past because of beach access issues in Ft. Lauderdale.
Thanks for all your effort CGKA and all the Port Commissioners who value kiting and our lifestyle! |

Thanks for the heads up. We will get on that right away. Your exactly right about access issues. If you not adding you will surely be loosing. Very sad to hear about the Florida situation.
Thanks again for signing up. _________________ Cleverly disguised as an adult...
