Shay and I got a great start on the Sauvie beach cleanup. Its really amazing how many huge trees are washed up the whole length of the beach.

We piled everything that was moveable on top of the unmoveable trees, so now several large burn piles are ready to go. We could also use a chainsaw to cut up a couple of trees that are right in the way of the main launch spot.

MysteryGirl and Bettyboarder have been working on getting us SOLV support. Maybe April 15th, or May 5th. Those dates sound good to anyone? I'll bring the beer!

Looks like the SOLV date has been set for a Sauvie Island cleanup on 4/22 (listed under Portland on the projects list).

Not sure the spring bonfire will fly with the SOLV’ers around? Wink

Might need to spark that baby off before 4/22... How about this Saturday night [4/08]???

Portland 4/22/06 Sauvie Island:
As part of the 15th Annual Sauvie Island Earth Day Cleanup, volunteers will clean up Sauvie Island Wildlife Area, roads and beaches in preparation for spring and summer visitors. Good for Kids!

Guys lets plan on some Saturday action, unless its pouring rain then lets reschedule. I can work from around 10am-3pm then I gotta jet.

Bonus points for bringing:

- a chainsaw
- some pipes for wedging under logs for rolling
- axe
- log picks
- gas can of diesel

Decals and beer for all who help out! Thumb's Up

Count me in. Smile I'll bring some beer, and possibly a chainsaw. Great opportunity to clean up the local spot while meeting the local riders!

A little rain a low clouds are actually a good thing as they will help to obscure the fire ball & mushroom cloud! Shocked

Also, the wetness may help keep the entire island from going up in flames... Confused

Good points on the rain/fireball Onad. Unless we are feeling adventerous, we don't necessarily have to set the logs on fire. Mark had a good point that some of them are so huge they would take days to burn.

Maybe we will get lucky and find some fisherman already burned them all for us. Very Happy

Another couple items that might be good to bring is a rake and a hoe (not the girly kind.) There is a lot of crap that is small that a nice big rake will make short work of.

One idea I had this morning is that instead of burning or sending all the logs out to sea, we could move some of them to the side and make a little barricade for our kiting area. Then again, I really don't want to get drug over impaled on any of those things, so maybe not.

See you all on Saturday!

I guess we’ll need allot of beer for the three day Burning Man Vigil!!

Seriously, what about a weed eater? Have the beach weeds grown up enough to whack down? I can bring mine.

If someone has a large chain saw we may be able to cut off rounds from the big logs and make some low seats that won’t impale??

I’ll bring my personal hoe... Wink

Onad,

I know the 'weeds' as you call the grass can be a little annoying sometimes but just like at the coast the grass helps keep the sand in place. if you have ever walked along the river past naked beach you will see no grass and a nasty clay 'beach'.

I think it best to leave the grass alone.

I think the idea of cutting 'rounds' for seats is a great idea.

I will be at the S. Coast hopefully getting some southerlies so i wont make it to the Fire.

Ryan

Yep, good point Ryan; on the grass (weeds). We need to leave them be. Hadn't reached the proper level of caffeine when I had that thought (& I was sooo excited to mow something down with my new gas powered 2-stroke smoke & 90dB belching weed whacker). ~D

I have a chainsaw and some hand tools. We still need several long strong poles to help roll the logs around.
