dude... is there a reason you don't have foot pads on your board?

Laughing That's funny. I zeroed in on the Go Joe and totally missed the lack of footpads! Seems like most others did too. Very Happy

Here's your answer:

I have a fanatic 150. 4' 11" long and16.5" wide. The footstraps on it suck. They don't adjust very much. Not anough to have booties on. I have tried every thing. They have a small velcro section and the rest is elastic. It doesn't adjust enough.
Like I said, I had to take the pads off, the pads add like .5 inch under the feet. To use booties, I had to take it off. And even that, it's barely hanging on.

That post is in a different thread. I posted a few days ago. Yes, the pads look sick. I really like them. but to use 3mm booties, to keep my footsies warm , I had to take them off. Any one have a solution, I'm all ears. So far the solution on the other thread was to buy new foot straps. Sounds like a lot of money I don't have. But I'm open to suggestions.

Oh, by the way, bare foot is not an option. Not in that 45 degree water. Someone said kayak socks. I don't know what does are. Or where IN Eugene can I find something like that. But again, I'm open for suggestions.

Yeah, some straps don't have a lot of adjustment. I had the same problem with some Royal straps. I switched to Slingshot straps to fix the problem. After examining the Royal straps, I found I could make a slight modification to allow more adjustment. Not sure if it would work with your straps, but it would be worth examining them closely to see what is limiting the adjustment. It's possible you could get more out of them. I haven't looked at your specific straps, so I don't know for sure. Also, you might be able to pick up a used pair of straps cheap. Maybe post a "Want to buy" in the classifieds here?

Have fun! I think your Go Joe is a great idea while you're learning.

To keep your feet warm without booties, you could do like the long distance swimmers do and cover your feet in Vaseline. There should have been some included with the gojoe.

LMFAO.

yeah OK Vaseline. My board will stay on my feet really well with that Vaseline. I'm married, I don't' need a gojoe lubed up. You seem to know a lot about that. You must be single. That sucks. Laughing

As far as the straps, they are maxed out. There is nothing I can do to lengthen them. I just need a different brand of straps. Fanatic just sucks in that department.
I like the board a lot. but hate the straps. It's the shitiest design I have ever seen.
I wish there was a store here in Eugene that I could just walk into and buy new straps. But this town sucks in that department.

What kind of slingshot foot straps should I get? I found these slingshot Doyle Directional adjustable foot straps. Should I get them? I need a lot of adjustment.

I really try to stay away from this discussion but somehow feel sucked in.
so it sounds like the footstraps and pads seem to fit without booties.
with the addition to the booties you can't stretch the strap out far enough.
So you remove the footstraps.
doesn't sound like you have a lot of money to throw around.
I see you need to "elevate" your footstraps by about a half an inch.
how about this for a "cheap" solution?
go down to the hardware store and get some stainless washers (the bigger diameter the better) and build a spacer by stacking the washers to "elevate" your strap placement off the surface of your deck. You'll need to get longer screws too.
probably a quick cheap fix. Just an idea.
good luck with your solution. can't wait to see you rippin out there.

hein that picture made my day...

The SS straps I'm using are 07 or 08 twin tip straps. I'm wearing 5mm booties & they're fine. What I would do If I were you is measure your old straps. Take one off measure it Mounting hole to mounting hole with the strap stretched out. Now you have to figure out how much more you need. Mount the pad & strap, but only one side of the strap. Stand on the pad wearing your bootie & have somebody hold the strap on & eyeball how much more adjustment you need. Add an inch or two for safety.

I'll be taking my straps off my board later today to pack it. I can measure it at that time & I'll post the results. My feet are size 10 /12, so if your feet are bigger you may need more travel...

I too cant see this post go ON forever....
Riding with out pads is gonna make your foot come out all the time even w/ bootie on.
I have pads & straps from a Naish Haze that got trashed last summer. They are in great shape.
You can have them if you want them. I am here in Eugene PM me and we will get them on your board so you have something to rest your big canoes on while riding.
DONE Yeah .
