I was there for the 2008 Gorge Games, I had a great time!!! You guys should definitely put one on for 2009!!!! I'm sure it brought cash to the HR community. Why wouldn't people in HR want that?

Theoretically this event should have helped the business community, but with the events layout requiring both competitors and spectators to be at multiple locations outside of town, no athletes village actually built, a $35 fee to visit the Gorge Games stage area, a $90/night athlete camping fee, parking blocked off all Sunday on Oak St, additional fees for entering any of the beer garden or music events, etc..... Not to even mention money invested by local businesses for marketing that provided very, very little return.

The list goes on and on of what complaints we heard from visitors and spectators who came to town to visit the Gorge Games. We had many customers come into the shop asking where the Gorge Games was, not knowing where to go for information or where any of the events were. Many people actually paid for tickets via Ticketmaster for events that did not even require a pass or having the supposedly reserved spectator seating as indicated on the website.

All I can say is that the 08 Gorge Games was pretty embarrassing and left a lot of us in the local business community wondering what the heck happened. The feelings of the HR Downtown Business Assoc, was that we were kind of scammed.

As for 09, there can't really ever be another Gorge Games unless the owners sell the rights or somehow pay off their debts and find a sponsor to back them.

It would be something cool to consider putting together a combination of local sports events to replace the Gorge Games, but, as mentioned by Forrest earlier, we keep it locally organized and run.

It would be great to have an event that is run by those of us who call Hood River home. If we can get the ball rolling I am all about it and would be happy to help in any way I can.

A few of us are trying to plan a Slider Jam contest in August. Not sure if it's going to happen but it would be nice to have some help if we can get the ball rolling.

Maybe a summer just riding would be fun.
Get back to our roots, My guess there isn't going
to me as many tourists. *sigh*

Save a little of that marketing budget in these troubled times
It's promotion of consumption beyond means that got us here.

Forrest's build sounds fun, though.
cuz i'm helping those punk bitches

Ahh nothing like catching a little Hein to make your day Laughing

Hehe, gotcha! It is true, Hein is graciously helping us!

I should whip up a little piece of software that spiders nwkite for Hein's posts and auto-quotes them.

A summer of riding does sound nice right now.

For people who dont live in the gorge or the NW, GG was a cool gathering of riders from all over. I dont really care if the event happens as the "GG", but i would still enjoy a yearly or every other year gathering. Something advertised and fun for all the people and riders. I met alot of cool people at the event and the stoke the riders had for the area and the GG was high.Sad to hear its over, but sounds like the whole idea behind the games was lost. Cant we do something smaller and non-profit that week?
BOTG was awesome....I will be back!

Why doesn't someone in HR put together another event like the Gorge Games so that way everyone from last year thinks its the gorge games? Screw buying the name "Gorge Games" People gathering from all over kiting for a few days and partying all night is what its all about!

I'm totally in for helping start up a replacement gorge games, but if your only concerned about kiting events, well we have a few suprises for you this summer.

Slider Sessions, CGKA Demo, Rufus Rockpile, BOTG, Blowout, KB4C and Core Slider Jam all are upping the anted for 09 and will all come together to make one hell of a summer for Hood River kiting.

That would be cool. It would be nice to have the strapless gods have some sort of class on how to ollie and transition and what not.

Good! Keep on him about this. We'd been pushing him to get this event going again for this next summer. We have been speaking with Royal and Surftech about getting Joey Pasquale to come out for the event and give a skim/strapless clinic.

Hear, hear. By the way I just updated my LinkedIn profile and noticed you can put up to three website links on there. I only had two (professional ones) so I added Kiteboarding 4 Cancer to help get the name out there. I noticed the site isn't updated yet - do we know when it's going to be this year? (I'm setting up travel plans for the spring and summer and hope to have time to volunteer).
