Sun Feb 08, 09 6:36 pm Another new Patagonia suit review |
|
|
One year after purchasing the 3mm Patagonia wetsuit I purchased again.
I wore the 3mm suit surfing all of January and had one of the best days of my life surfing in snow in overhead perfect waves.
I knew I would buy another 3mm, and did, and I wore it the other day only to find that the new improved 3mm is a huge improvement.
Nylon on the arms, and tape in the crotch area, have made it even warmer.
Because our prime surfing season in Oregon is November through March there can be some unreasonably chilly mornings that I would enjoy being overly warm.
So I bought the NEW 5mm hooded Patagonia last week.
I have worn in one time and all I can say is
I felt like I was on fire. It was SO warm.
Almost to the point of uncomfortable.
I will probably wear my 3mm until the air is under 40 and water is 45 to 50.
But if you want to be really warm then throw down the change....it is totally worth it.
Josh has em at cleanline.....in a few sizes. |

Patagonia will be showing up at GP also. If you want toasty boots leave your wool socks on and see how that feels. It works well with kids and loose boots too. The hole line up from Patagonia is pretty sweat and I think will fit our style well. Stay tuned. _________________ Gorge Performance

i have the 3mm boots and when out at stevenson two weeks ago, my feet were toasty. even at 38 degree water, those boots kept me warn the whole session.
the new 09's don't have the waffle wool in them so, i went with the 08 version which i don't think you can get from patagonia anymore, sold out. i tried on the 09's and they didn't have wool.
scott, does your new 09 suit have the small wool waffle's in them?

About the wool in the 09's.....it is throughout the entire suit...but not the 09 booties.
Hot tip on the 08 booties---squirt some aquaseal between the toes because the movement can wear through the rubber there on any split toe bootie.
The Aquaseal will limit the inside edge from rubbing a hole in a few months.
As for gloves I think it is yet to be seen that someone actually makes a perfect glove.
The patagonia gloves have wool inside but they are smooth skin so they are too easy to catch on something like a barnacle or a kite line etc.
Next week I am going to get a product called TOOL DIP and dip my patagonia gloves in it.
It is a liquid latex that is bombproof.
Because the wool in the 'patty gloves' is insanely warm and I have been spoiled now.
Gotta figure out a way to make them even stronger.
Went out surfing again today and there was sleet/snow coming down.
My suit was so so so toasty. |

Let us know how the tool dip works. I would like a warm low profile glove. _________________ MS |

How is the durability on the Patagonia wetsuits?
Was the first 3mm suit worn out after one year (how many days of use?),
or did you get another one just because? |

The durability of the first 3mm is really good.
I had no issues at all.
Actually the limestone rubber they use seems a lot tougher than typical petroleum based smoothskin...for sure.
It is now my summer kite suit for this summers season.
I just bought a new one----just because I want a new one.
Just rotating the rubber on the ride. |
