There was actually a shit pile more of them on my kite at first. I dunked the kite in the ocean and had laugh as I went back to the car to finish my beer and put the wetsuit on. Then they were all over my harness!!! Shocked

So the canadian threw the harness in the water and they went back to the kite and I decided screw it and self launched. Mark got some bees dumped on him but in the end nobody got stung.

Funny thing is, I was out riding for about 15 minutes and slowed down on my surfboard to mess with my mp3 player. What happens? Friggin bee starts flying in my face!! DUDE !! get the hell away from me!!

I know a bit about swarming bees as I had a honey bee hive in my yard growing up for about 5 years.

No one was stung probably for a few reasons:

Bees are less defensive when swarming as they are looking for a new home and have no hive and or booty (ie honey) to protect.

Before hives split and swarm, the bees leaving the established hive gorge themselves with honey for the "new adventure"/long trip locating and establishing a new hive. When the bees are gorged with honey, this makes it practically impossible for them sting with their stinger.

The bees like warmth and thus where probably attracted to the black surfaces of your kite gear. However, when bees are in a defensive mode, they tend to attack darker objects first.

Your kite gear was only a temporary location for the bees. They had scouts out searching for a permanent location for the new queen and her working female crew.
