I have both the gopro and the sanyo. The wide angle on the go pro is nice but not adjustable, sound is really muffled since the camera is in a little closed housing. The attachment system on the gopro is the bonus. Uses standard aaa batteries too.

You have the new sanyo allready, I didnt think it was available till this month?

Correct me if I am wrong, I am certainly no expert in this field but while the go pro seems like a good camera for what it is, the New Sanyo seems like a much different and better video capability camera. Apples and Oarnges?

I've been looking at these for a while. I had the non-HD pistol grip one (stolen) and it was rad.

What's the major difference between the two, aside from pistol/standard grip?

looks like the standard trades better zoom for a potentially better image quality of the pistol-grip???

thoughts?

I think its just an ergonomics issue, easier to shoot action shots with a pistol grip. My guess is the non-pistol grip/horizontal style would have the better image quality because its easier to make a camera in that form factor. The horizontal definitely has a better zoom...

Actually my main reasoning was the horizontal one is available now and I want it for my SPI trip. Very Happy

I figured the same, but looking at the specs it looks like the pistol-grip has a bigger sensor. Problem is that I have no idea how important that is relative to other features... anyone?

FYI> for non-HD pistol grip was actually too lightweight, so it made for shakey images (shooting from a kiterider or jetski or whatever).
I attached a weight (water bottle - neutral buoyancy) to the bottom of it and that really helped. You might want to do the same with the one you got.

pistol grips are perfect for shooting. pretty easy to setup on a non pistol grip cam.
well if you have access to machine shop...
just take a plastic dowel, like 1" diameter, cut it about 4" long, drill and tap a 1/4" hole into the end. screw a 1/4-20 setscrew into it so that it is still protruding out of the hole about a 1/4" tall, then just thread the dowel into the tripod hole. To top it off, finish it with a rubber grip, like a handle bar grip from an old bicycle. That's what I do.
I film everything with a pistol grip.

How about one of those home made steady cam things? I think Adam had one last year...

It scares me to think what this guy just got done filming...

Yeah. Glidecams/Steadicams are cool, but unless you've got a heavy cam, they don't seem to like getting blasted by 30kts+ of wind.

It's interesting that the horizontal does only 2 MP images, while the vertical does 9mp! I'd get a horizontal if they'd step that up.
