Tool was in good shape I was just not being smart. After 15 years I know better than to work on small pieces like I was. Somehow the small piece of wood kicked and drug my hand into the blade before it retracted. With the guard set at maybe 3/16 I have no idea how my whole finger got in. On the Dewalt the guard has a large opening for viewing I guess my finger got in that space. Truly am still at a loss.

good thing it is the ring finger, don't use that one as much as others(and left hand)
shouldn't hurt your kiting too much
that pic will make me think twice about running that little piece through the tablesaw or something else stupid to get the job done

Thanks for all the support! I get to keep the finger for now. In six weeks we’ll unwrap it and see if I can get it moving. They keep preparing me for the chance it my not work that well and I may be better off without it, but I don’t plan on that I can already move the tip. I’m getting married in July and some think this is a hell of a way to get out of it or at least wearing the ring (not true). By the way the ER doc said if I was wearing a ring in may have been worse so all you contractors think about that. Thanks again and can’t wait for spring I think I’ll hang up the snow kite gear but I got some good days in before this.
