Benefits
Living above the Great Barrier Reef for six months is a pretty unique benefit, but you’ll also be well-paid – a salary package of AUD$150,000 for a six-month contract. Plus, your accommodation will be provided on Hamilton Island. And there’s plenty of room if you choose to share your experience with a friend or your family.
Selection Criteria
We’re looking for someone with an adventurous attitude, passion for the outdoors and good communication skills. A broad range of experience is considered and Tourism Queensland will be selecting applicants based on:
- Enthusiasm for the role
- Entertainment value (personality and creativity)
- Presentation skills (being media-friendly)
- At least one year's relevant experience
Employer
Tourism Queensland, the statutory authority for the Queensland government, was established in 1979 and has become Australia’s premier destination management organisation. We maintain a network of thirteen international offices to promote and market Queensland as a tourist destination.

How to Apply
Want the best job in the world? If you enjoy new experiences and you can spare six months to enjoy life above the Great Barrier Reef, you’re already in with a good chance. It’s easy to apply.
Step 1: Create a video application (in English and in 60 seconds or less)
In an entertaining and engaging way, tell us why you’re the best person for the job and demonstrate your knowledge of the Islands of the Great Barrier Reef.
Step 2: Fill out a brief application form and upload your video
Tourism Queensland will create a short list of 50 candidates who will submit a short personal profile, to help us narrow the candidates for the interview stage.
Eleven candidates will be invited to the Islands of the Great Barrier Reef for an interview from 3 to 7 May 2009. So, if you want the best job in the world, make sure you’re available to travel to Queensland for the interviews. You’ll also need to be available to start work on the 1st July 2009. Tourism Queensland will select ten candidates and one Wild Card candidate will be selected by the world – so make sure you encourage all your friends and family to vote.

No no no....its a terrible job. Really. QLD totally sucks at that time of year and then not only are there sharks, jelly fish, snakes, and man eating insects but think about the sunburn!
And A$150? Puh....by the time the australian economy crashes in the next few months you will be better off getting paid in Vietnamese Dong.
Actually, $150 A is four times more than most of us get paid here as well....And when you get the job, stick around for the australian summer as a kiteboarding instructor...!
Good Luck!
ps....I am not sure that speaking and writing 'American' qualifies as fluency in English.......
