Glad you all are weathering the Day After Tomorrow apocalypse - shoutout to the Dolphins for taking down KC in 10 degrees (the KC QB was actually shivering - never seen that before)

Quick trip report:

No wind football sunday

30 knot northern yesterday - sweet
No waves at kite beach Jupiter 10 am - 5 or 6 six kites out - my bud Dan the airplane trader is late for our Mecca Downwinder - I sit for an hour waiting chomping at the bit - sun, wind, kites out- try to recruit a few locals but no takers - Dan shows up as I'm pulling my gear out to point sail - downwinder is on!

He forgot his harness - no biggee he lives 5min out - Dan fields 8 calls on the way to his house - this bodes poorly but I zen it out.
Dan has two cell phones and fields 5 more calls - this is Dan's first mecca downwinder but i assure him he will be fine (hmm......)

one of his kiting bros calls between deals (he is Bud the Naish rep) can't make it but gives Dan some mecca downwinder advice "cell phone in ziplock, screwdriver for strap tightening and bottle of water" - I tell him that shit is for fags - will be done in two hours.

I see Dan is a bit nervous, but he is gonna kill it.

Arrive at the put in for the 15 miler and guy fishing and his girlfriend are the sole people on the beach - the waves are shoulder to head high and wind 25-30. Very niiiiiiiccccce.

Fishing boy approaches me:

Lots of sharks in water

- they don't bother me

"No man, really we've been catching them all day"

- out of curiosity - how big?

"5 to 6 feet 100 to 200lbs wanna see the pictures"

he shows me some pics, pretty cool but shiiiiiiiiiit our west coast sharks eat these little bitches - Dan is a bit concerned but we pump up.

As we pump up, fishing boy paddles a nice big bait out in his kayak cleverly attached to a rock with thread - about 100 yrds out - and paddles back in
- Shark Fishing is now on

I'm set to go - Dan takes the pump and extra crap back to the car - i walk over and chat up fishing boy for 5-10 minutes - his girlfriend interrupts - think we got a bite

She grabs the rod and a 150lb ballistic missile fires out of the water 10 feet in the air - full-on barrel role - whoaaaaaaaaaaaaaa...

She is fighting this thing for 15 minutes (hey where is Dan?)

I trek to the car and tell him if doesn't get off the phone I will off his balls - oh and come check out this chick and the shark

They wrestle the shark onto the beach for a photo and nicely let him go - Dan offers to help pull the shark in but i suggest he keep his hands and feet and let fishing boy and bikini girl handle it.

Sick 15 miler (surprisingly I didn't fall that much)

Great play by play and pics. Gman stokes the locals Very Happy
Those little nibblers can make you think twice about power dragging to retrieve your board.
But you know what they say about not falling off. You're not trying hard enough. Embarassed Razz
Where did you start and end your down winder?

I like their fishing strategy. The shore fisherman only catch minows here in SPI. But they don't know the strategy.

Does the rock fall off or does he pull it in with the fish?

Good one Gman - Have lots of fun. Where did you take out on your downwinder?

Nice work Gman! Rig a Rod to your surfboard and land a biggie!
--Keep the pics flowing!--

Don't worry about the snow around here--there's gonna be plenty
when you return-- we're only at 60" mtn / 17" in town
