Alright, here is the plan, which is subject to change, but I figure'd I'd throw it out there.

Saturday: South side of timberline parking lot, between the two one way roads, up and over the hill where no one can see us. Elevation is more critical for us on Saturday, so this spot is going to be guaranteed to have snow.

Sunday: Logging road near east White River Canyon Snowpark.

Probably gonna try and be at Timberline by 11AM.

I'll post more about it tomorrow night.

MonkeyBoy, GeneK, Chanson, and Chooch, You guys down? Can you bring your winch and sliders out?

Yeah, I hear that. Although paddle boarding out through 3-5ft shore break on a really wobbly board isn't as easy as it sounds. Feeling better today so hopefully it'll be solid by tomorrow.

Good news is it sounds like it might dump a few feet at the mountain this weekend. Would it make more sense to find a winching spot at lower elevation that's easier to access? If it dumps at low levels tonight and keeps dumping tomorrow it'd be nice not to have to drive through the storm all the way to T-line.

Do you know of another spot? I don't want to spend all day driving around looking for a spot. One of the snowparks could be decent, maybe we can find something at lower elevation, but again, I don't want to waste all our day light. We thought Timberline area would be money on Saturday because there is already a few inches of snowbase, 1 big slider is already there, and we've already had decent success with the spot.

Soooooooooo, unless anyone has any other spots in mind, lets call it timberline with the option to stop lower if we see something along the way.

Current plan is to leave HR no later than 9AM. We'll scout a few areas in hopes of finding something at lower elv. Our fall back plan is Timberline.

Sunday should be sweet at Dalles Mtn!

It's at 2200 feet, and we're gonna get 1-2 inches of precip with the snow level at 1000 ft, it should be plenty.

well the other spot i know if is the honey hole on the old dalles dr, just east of HR. never been up there to snowkite but the dalles rd, or ol dalles dr is there, and there are definately some clearings up there.

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=Hood+River,+OR&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=63.9851,135&ie=UTF8&ll=45.670684,-121.460209&spn=0.028129,0.082226&t=h&z=15

looking at the google topo map, it looks like there is some decent rolly hills on the east side of the ridge, there north of where it is labeled hood river mtn with terrain ranging from 1200 - 1800 foot elevation. dont know if we'll get enough snow at that low of elevation tonight, but i think it definately deserves thinking about.

there is another spot tho in Parkdale, on the road to laurance lake. i think this clearing is probably 1000 feet wide, and 2500 feet in length. and there is another HUGE clearing east of evans creek next to bigger clearing along laurance lake drive. here is the link to google maps and it looks like it is somewhere in the 2200' foot elevation. 97031 gets credit for this one.

here is the nws link for that same area

Late Afternoon: Snow. The snow could be heavy at times. Steady temperature around 33. West wind around 20 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. Total daytime snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.

Tonight: Snow showers. The snow could be heavy at times. Low around 28. West southwest wind between 17 and 20 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of 6 to 10 inches possible.

Saturday: Snow showers likely. Cloudy, with a high near 31. South southwest wind 11 to 17 mph becoming west northwest. Winds could gust as high as 26 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.

There won't be enough snow, I don't think. The snowlevel isn't really dropping down till Saturday night. We need a spot that doesn't require us to hike for 100s of yards to get some incline like Dalles Mtn. The good thing about Sunday at Dalles Mtn is that there should be plenty of snow and we can back up the snowkiting with the grinch and a few rails if we get skunked.

We're not going to Timberline specifically, but that little island patch of snow just south of the parking lot. There are two decent spots in that island and no one will see us or bother us and we're shielded from the wind. The timberline spot is good as well because there is already a few inches of base there and we have a 20' slider up there already, so we're guaranteed a good time. This is assuming we don't' find something else, at lower elevation that will work. We're really after a nice long slope so we can setup 3 features in a row.

Feel free to rally early with us to scope spots. We're going to be in the vicinity at 930AM scouting.
