Fri Nov 28, 08 8:38 pm Sweet winching spot? |
|
|
So on our annual thanksgiving mt bike ride at three corner rock, I spotted this spot off the road on the Washougal.
Looks like it could be a sweet redbull upstream kind of place but way mellower.
All the logs are chained and bolted down to the rocks so it should look the same even after the snow melt.
Log waterfall ollie

To make features for wakeskaters...
Actually, I think Tony Meyer and the Columbia river fish enhancement group is responsible for that log jam in the picture. Logs are probably the single most important structure in healthy streams. I do believe that those logs were anchored there for the purpose of capturing gravel for spawning beds. By the looks of the pictures they are working pretty damn good,

Don't you mean DAM good? har har
Actually I think it would be best with a wakeskate.
That way walking sucks less and water isn't so cold cause you can have footwear.
You can get around most of the obstacles pretty easy.
Either bonk bonk or set up a table over one of the logs or something to make it more wakeskateable.
The bottom there is mostly a rock sheet and some of those rocky/gravel spots.
Sweet biking up there too!

| Looks like an engineered log jam that the forest service builds for salmond stream restoration. They are both love and hated by kayakers because they help the salmond live and reproduce but can kill the kayakers. Just alittle more flow and its very easy to get traped under them by the presure from the water. Be careful if you use this place with any flowing water in the river!!!

| ditto what vangondc said... they call log formations like that "strainers" and they are more dangerous than they look.

| yea, as dangerous as strainers can be.....those are about as user frindly as they get (chained to the riverbed). I would say prime grinchin spot! They have placed these logs all over the NW rivers for fish habitiat, almost always in the flatter sections of river (thankfully).

you whiners!!!
I was busy at MEPS and I am now officially in the Navy!
I'm super excited!
but unless any openings come up, my ship date isn't until september
Then I'm off to Chucktown
so if anybody knows of any cool shot time employment opportunities...
oh well, at least I get one more kite season in.
here's your porn
awesome spot on the sandy
there's a sand island in the river there and this little stream runs along the inside of it.
Its ankle to knee deep mostly and there's a decent current so you can go a little slower and still stay up.
Gets you a little more time on the features.
Its definitely a spot for a wakeskate or skim; not as much fun on a wakeboard.

| Stringer's going to Nuke School. Maybe he'll be able to hook you up with some serious power for the winch.
