Yep, I saw that too. Looks good for some strong Easterlies. Viento or Camas could be good, but a downwinder would be even better.

I'm thinking that the Gorge might be the best bet. Scoring a downwinder would be sweet. The Astoria ponds don't seem like a sure thing and it would suck to drive 3.5 hours round trip and not get decent riding when the Gorge was blowing. We can of course check the wind in the morning and make the call.

Sounds good... With the later high tide we can make a morning decision. Rooster high tide will be about 10:am, and it's not a real high one. Should be plenty of beach.

Gonna shoot for checking the situation around 9am Sunday morning and then making the call (Astoria ponds vs. Gorge).

With the new forecast, I am thinking maybe just hit up rooster as opposed to a downwinder, especially if there is beach. I would bet the wind would be really light at viento.

Then we'd launch at BV and do a short run to RR

7:40 & still light winds. Easterly pressure differentials seem to be building. So is it Astoria or the Rock?

Gorge forecast:

TODAY...MOSTLY SUNNY. HIGHS 50 TO 55. CASCADE LOCKS WESTWARD... EAST WIND 10 TO 15 MPH INCREASING TO 15 TO 25 MPH WITH GUSTS TO 35 MPH IN THE AFTERNOON. NEAR HOOD RIVER...EAST WIND 5 TO 10 MPH.

Coast:

TODAY...MOSTLY CLOUDY IN THE MORNING...THEN MOSTLY SUNNY. AREAS OF FOG IN THE MORNING. HIGHS 55 TO 65. EAST WIND 5 TO 15 MPH.

Of course, that's the coast forecast for both crappy and great East winds... Very Happy

BTW, Heavy fog in Longview & Clatskanie. .2 miles vis in Longview, 0 in Clatskanie. If you're leaving for the coast this morning, consider going through Portland rather than Longview...

Columbia River Bar buoy is steadily picking up East wind. Looks like the Lagoon is a go! Very Happy

You think Astoria is a go? I'm a bit sketched by the pressure gradient.

Astoria-Portland:
East .04 increasing
Portland-Dalles:
East .05 decreasing

Looks like the Gorge gradient is improving but Astoria to PDX gradient doesn't look good right now.

The winds on the coast look promising... The Columbia bar buoy was on a steady climb, but it just fell back a bit. I'm guessing 11m winds at the lagoon right now, but I've only been starting to figure out the winds there over the last 2 weeks. I really don't have a great handle on it yet. I'm comparing the winds and pressure on the coast now compared to the last few times I went.

RR is already blowing 15 - 20...

Nice pictures Nak. I did a nice downwinder from Dalton's to rooster. The wind near Dalton's was much steadier than down at RR. It was the first time I had launched there. I was not aware that there are some huge boulders just under the water near the boat ramp. I did a huge boost just after I took off and almost landed on one Shocked Be careful close to there.
