The Saturn Division was indeed a great step forward for GM in the 90s but it has slowly become diluted and it is starting to look like just another GM name tag. Many early Saturn fans have started giving up hope on them. If GM were smart they would look towards the management and labor leaders at Saturn to help turn things around. No mention of that on the tube. (er, flat screen) Although many of them probably now work for Honda, Toyota and others. But there is always hope.
We really like our Redline Vue and it turns heads. It's ironic however that the problems seem to start where the Honda drive train ends and the GM part starts. Kind of a rolling example of what is wrong with GM and what's right with Honda and the like. It's not the engineers' fault. They are constrained by those legacy concepts from design through manufacturing. I've seen that first hand. EPA and IRS rules are why folks bought the gas sucking SUVs and GM was happy to keep making them because they were selling.
Not now so it just makes no sense to keep making them. It will take them two plus years to develop and release a more suitable automobile for today's needs. 3 months won't do it. Not likely that an electric car will fit the bill either. I'm not sure we can put up enough wind mills but we are going to try. If we do they'll surely scare the birdies away. I wonder when the naturalists will start to notice? A small fuel sipper would be better. Like my '98 S series Saturn wagon. 170K on the odometer and 35mpg. If I look around I can find another one for less than $1500. So why would I buy a new GM for over 30K??? My '06 Redline was half that.
Wind at the jetty just dropped due to mid day heating. Maybe it will be better in the late afternoon. That's typical. I"m sure they are all riding at the flats and having a great time and I am happy for the herd. I just can't bring myself to do it.
Stormy southerlies are in my future. Did I say pray for snow? Oregon and HR needs the economic boost. We are not one of the fortunate states with a budget surplus.

The pseudo sacrifice of driving the Corpus must have satisfied the wind gods just enough. Sneaked in a downwinder to the Wanna Wanna on my brand new '05 9m fuel. What a great kite with a pulley bar! Those thin 300# lines sure make a difference.
Jellies everywhere and some nice knee to waist high peelers. Ceviche and beer after Kim finally found me. No late afternoon build, however ,cause it died at 3pm. Fickle is as fickle does. Kim said there were 100 kites out at the flats. Maybe they sucked up all the wind. Hope they had fun and didn't get tangled too much. She wondered where they had all been and I told her they were holed up in their condos and hotels with razor blades at their wrists for the last week.
So let's hear a report from the FLATS. How was it? |
