The northerly blew in with winds 30-40 mph. Gene and Tony caught an early downwinder. I couldn't hold the 6m down on the beach so I gave it to Tony and skipped it. Gene was also on the 6. Later we did a 4 person downwinder at sunset and I rode the 5m and had a blast in a 5/4 wetsuit. Lots of people out at the flats too! Looks like today will be notta or light late.

Heading to SPI tomarrow from this God-forsaken place, Minnesota. Wind, air, and water all look good for the only 5 days I will be down there. Very strange stroke of luck for me. Winds will be straight side shore south for perfect downwinders. I just bought my first directional SRT!

I have a funeral to attend in San Antonio this weekend, had to buy a last minute plane ticket. To bad SPI isn't day-trip-able but I'll either hit corpus or the cable lake on Sat/Sun!

Would be badass if you guys could hit the cable lake with me and I could show you around San Antonio where I grew up! Guarantee you'll gain some weight from the food! Smile

Tekko and Bolsted's should be down there. I think Railgrab is too. I'm sure you'll get at least a couple days in. I made sure to get all the skunk outta the way for ya. At the moment looks like 2-3 days might be decent, but the forecast changes every few hours so hard to say.

Big kites at the flats today. Here's Denise making the most of the buttery conditions. Water felt like it was in the low 70s. I got by with just a 2mm rashy, but most were wearing wetsuits. Look for Denise and I on our pink kite quiver or cruise by me and my yellow helmet if I'm ever out taking shots. We're heading out to the north flats again tomorrow. BTW, if you're heading to SPI and happen to have a sandbag, throw it in your luggage. When we got our permit today, I was told it's a regulation to keep a sandbag on hand to help dig out if stuck out there.

Forest - Grom and Shane are in Corpus. If you get to sneak away, give me a jingle and I'll get you connected. I'm heading back to SPI tomorrow with a suitcase full of CA rum and Tony's flying tonight so we'll be on the beach this weekend-flats or downwinders.

My wife, Kim and I have been here for a little over a week with a full on skunk in the works. Big kites on plywood just ain't my cup of tea. We went to Corpus yesterday to pick up a part for the car at the Saturn dealer because we were just sooooo bored. They had it for $150 while the McCallen dealer was quoting me $230 and said it would have to be ordered and possibly not arrive for 2 weeks. Stinky! We were prepared to keep driving since the forecast looked like shit. Stopped to get 20 lbs of shrimp and bags of citrus for the folks back home. We decided to head back after the NWS increased the forecast for the next few days and still had the condo. This shit is making me crazy but we are still able to laugh about it. Round trip to Corpus is 350 miles but it doesn't take very long since the speed limit is 70. A short drive for anyone who is used to chasing the wind. There is a short cut via TX HWY 70 that really helps.

The sun is beautiful this morning but the forecast is again looking marginal at best. Kim is flying home in a few more days but I can stay another 3 weeks. I'm wondering if it is worth it. If I don't get a ride soon, I'm heading to the cable and visiting friends and family on the long drive home.

If you can change your flights, head to Florida. It's been blowing there. If I had a couple more flights in my que I'd probably just park the car at the Harlingen airport and head there myself. (You can leave a car, even and RV, there for $50/month)

Phil nailed it. Padre is fickle in the fall. Probably not worth it. Spring is a better call.
Really the best way to get it here this time of year is to be able to fly down for a few days when the forecast for wind has a higher probability. Then go home after the norther and call it good. Southwest's Rapid Rewards plan can let you do that. Get their Visa card and buy everything with it. (and pay your bill each month of course) Then you can reserve a flight one day in advance if they have seat.

I need to unload a strapless surfboard and a couple of new 9m Airush C kites while I'm here if possible. Just don't want to haul them back so the prices are CHEAP. Call me if interested. 541 490 5098.

I've always done Padre in a motor home but monthly rent in the RV park has nearly doubled to $400/mo since I started coming here. Condo's are the way to go now IMO. We were able to negotiate an great rate and our landlord is awesome. Bought us a new mattress and had it delivered the next day. Most have WIFI too. And the neighbors have been great. We actually love hanging out with the retired folks. They are so friendly and respectful. (something I feel is somewhat missing amongst the younger crowd and for sure in some of the recent posts on this and other Kitesurfing forums) What was it Bambi's mother said???

Have a great Thanksgiving!!!!

Tragically true, but she had some words of wisdom that let Bambi become a wise
leader. Or so we were lead to believe.

Disney is hardly purveyor of mutual respect, ethics and morality these days.
That still has to come from the examples set by parents and family. Some of
the older releases are filled with ugly realities that probably weren't the
most wholesome entertainment for my generation. We just didn't know it
and did not recognize the parallels with society.

The more (and at the same time less frequent) sessions I get at our local sites
makes it more difficult to be satisfied with the offerings of some far away destination.
However epic they may be for the area.

Especially after this last fall during shark season. Thanks to our coastal brothers
for the heads up.

I'll get some for sure. maybe today. maybe next spring. In the mean time,
Pray for snow!

The Cable Lake is honestly the best bet. You can only be skunked by lightening. I'm gonna be hitting up TSR on Sunday!

Good call, Forrest. Maybe I'll see you there. I've got a high school buddy in Dallas I haven't seen for a long time. He'll have the tools to help me install that high dollar center support bearing that GM under-designed and over priced. I've seen first hand why the the big three can't compete when I worked for a conveyor contractor. Sad really, how union AND company management have tied the hands of productivity. The workers caught in the middle really do want to work but they can't due to the ridiculous rules they have in place.

But now I digress and the wind should be clocking to the SE with the inland heating.

Are those whitecaps by the jetty?

but at least you will be able to sell that V-Tec out of it Surprised

Saturn is the stand alone sort-of GM Division and still has to deal with legacy issues
I hope we let them go and don't string out this down turn by trying to socialize
business.
Any further,,,
fuk-ups need to go (out of business)

Sounds like a rough trip with the dog and wind
we never had more than 50% kiteable there in the winter.

yes sunny and very nice here with a hint of wind
super mild fall so far
but I would rather be kiting stormy southerlies
while snow builds up
