Does your kicker have barrels that are located outside of the actual ramp though? I don't recall seeing them, wasn't really looking though.

Got it on the water sloshing around, kind of forgot it would just stay there. But wait a minute, wouldn't the air and water equalize at some point? i.e. if you float a barrel in the river, it won't bob on end.. or maybe it would, I guess it would depend on how much water was in it.

I think i should go get a masters in physics before we move forward. Laughing Laughing

I'll have you recall that I am the one without health insurance here... I mean I have that crappy catastrophic (5k deductible) but I don't know if they consider both legs breaking one incident or two...

That much said when are we doing this?

Shit guys. Maybe we should just bolt some 6 foot legs to the end and have one barrel for the begining???

If only Hein were here, then we wouldn't have these kinds of problems.

Smile

I do believe that the catastrophic insurance is the correct one in this situation. Wink

our old kicker had them on the outside
will post a pic
the new one has a wider base at the back to allow the barrels to fit inside
hein designed the shape and thought it looked cooler like that, just so happens there was enough room to put the barrels wide enough, on the inside.

the older one was more stable side to side, but the new one looks better and is stable when set up properly

the old kicker was 4 ft wide, so the center of the barrels was 5ft. o.c.
the new kicker they are a little bit narrower

Yea, we can at least loan you a barrel until you find another one.

I don't think it would be to much work to get the barrels on the outside of your frame. Just weld two triangles on each side so there is a notch for the barrel to sit into, then just ratchet strap some barrels in there. The triangles could be on strong hinges so it packs up tighter.

I say we leave it as it is for now, grab another barrel and strap the back two on the sides like dudes said..

Try it, if no go, then we put legs on it or another idea..

The thing is, at the airport...we don't have tohave it float..but if want it to go to sauves..etc. then we would need it to float...

Google Sketch-Up is your friend, it's easy and free. You can design stuff to scale, with exact measurements, and then take a look at it. I'm sure this all made sense when you were imagining it, but it's different in practice. We use the hell out of it to prototype designs.

float it!!!!
more good info
www.engineeringtoolbox.com/water-density-specific-weight-d_595.html

we should call letterman and have him put this on his "will it float?" skit

sketch up is the shit
i take 3 d conceptual drawings to my engineer and we figure out structural calculations so fast he should give me a discount for making his job easier

What about an old Hobie Cat design like the Big Black kicker they have in miami..only a smaller version.. Wink

I just want to hit it..
I am free tonight for testing after 5. Winch and kicker are at my house.

That would be sick, then you could just set this bitch on top of it. Or inside an old inflatable dingy!

her is the old kicker on it's trial run
notice the barrels are all the way under, it floated too high, so we added water and it worked but we ended up having issues related to lack of buoyancy.
we had no idea what water density, and displacement was. we just wanted to hit it

ideally about 1/3 to 1/2 of the barrel should have been below the water line of the ramp,
like the one in the front of the ramp

hobie cat is great idea

Problem solved, I just cut candy mountain into pieces and hauled it to the curb.

What happened to the 03 kicker?

it lasted a season with the barrels then a couple of seasons without
we just put it in shallow water with deeper landing
i believe it eventually "contributed to the formation of the sandbar"

Wake, great pics. just for future reference buoyancy calcs are very easy. Like stupid easy. Water weighs 8 lbs per gallon. So if you displace a gallon of water, there is 8 pounds of flotation. i.e. it would take 8 lbs of force to hold an empty one gallon jug under water.

So you add up the total weight of the project your floating AND the weight of the barrels themselves and subtract it from the total weight of water displaced by your flotation barrels.

i.e. Unicorn

Total displacement 110 gallons
Total flotation 110 x 8 = 880 lbs
weight of kicker and barrels = 80 lbs

Positive bouyancy of 800 lbs.

Barrels half full of water equals 55 x 8 = 440 minus weight -80 = 360lbs of bouyancy

Damn, in 03' I was trying to convert my 2-line LF to 4-line... and then came the X2...yikes... I might have been able to tea-bag over the 03' kicker... Confused

Hmmm... Jake's kicker idea doesn't sound too bad now does it.. Wink

haha...no the candy mt. is sick, and will actually let us pop....and it will get going...just gotta fine-tune it now..i say we take it to the river tonight...
