Aurora!!!
I was flying a T-38 at FL450 once, and heard another military aircraft request IFR clearance and FL600. (60,000 feet. ) The controller said "If you can climb to 600 you can have 600." in a very condescending voice. The pilot replied "Roger, descending to Flight Level 600." also, in a condescending voice. That was an SR-71... Makes you wonder what Aurora can do? (Aurora is the rumored super-secret replacement for the SR-71.)
Good luck Spike! |

My dad was in the air force and snuck me in a foot locker onto the flight line to see the SR-71 just before they decommissioned it. Was crazy to peak out of a foot locker and see it being guarded by armed personnel one day, and then see it out in public in a aircraft museum on Lackland AFB a few weeks later. What an amazing machine that was.
I've been following the rampjet/scramjet research for a little while just cause it's super interesting to me, I'm a engineering fanboi. Unfortunately, I'm doing the make-believe engineering of software rather than stuff that moves and supports weight.
Hopefully I'll live long enough to travel from PDX to Western Australia in less than an hour. |
