vangondc, Where do you get the latex booties? They go under the ankle seal? Do you then wear neoprene booties over them?
Thanks!

I'm new to kiting but have wakeboarded for many years and do it pretty much year round. I believe a good full suit is better than a dry suit. I personally feel like a drysuit constricts my movement more and limits my riding. it is nice to dry when done riding but its not worth hindering my riding to stay dry. wetsuit will probably last longer with less upkeep too.

A good drysuit really shouldn't limit your movement. There are a couple of big differences between the two sports. The biggie is you're not exposed to 20+ winds for hours on end while wakeboarding. I think you'll find that a drysuit is far more comfortable on the river in winter. Some still choose to go with a wetsuit, but most of those guys look pretty chilled while rolling up their gear.

Have you ridden in any of the newer drysuits specifically designed for kiting (or surfing)? I feel less restricted in my Pyro Surf than my 4/3 wetsuit.

I got them from Kokatat back when I had a business account with them, I sold that business though. I'm sure that you could just call them up and get them from them directly.
They go where the foot seals were. You first have to remove the old ones and then glue the new ones on with aqua seal and alittle cotol. Make sure to mark them before gluing so that they face the right way, its easy to do (I Hear?). DO NOT get the goretex feet, every one I know who has them has walked holes in them realy fast and I imagen that kiting would do it even faster than kayaking because of the sand that would get in to the booties around here. The Goretex membrane is delicate and doesn't hold up well to walking. Feel free to PM me if you can't find them I might be able to make a couple of calls and still find a pair for you.

Sounds interesting. Shouldn't be any harder than replacing a seal? How do they affect your feel of the board? I might try a pair underneath the ankle seals just to see how they feel. I would think the ankle seal would seal over them? Thanks for the info and the offer of help!!

No worries on the help but if you put them under the ankle seal the creases would leak as the latex sock are over sized slightly to fit socks. I don't think you could smooth them out enough. As far as the feel of the board goes, I'm sure there is a little loss but it can't be any more than comes from really cold feet in early March. To me, warm is more important that time of year and it makes me look forward to sheding the layers as summer comes. Kind of a PPE calendar of sorts.
