with thanksgiving coming soon, it is time to plan another kite-trip.

We usually go to SPI cuz we have a free place to stay and those Texans know how to deep-fry a turkey Wink ...but with no more southwest flights to Harlingen, the price of tickets is ($700) and I am looking at other options also.

fly somewhere else and drive to padre...any suggestions..?
fly to another destination..
fly to boise for $200 and snow-kite all weekend,
We are planning on leaving Tues(25th) and return on Sunday(30th)

What are your plans..?

Snowkiting is likely a no-go then bro, most of us fly south for the Turkey day holiday to La ventana or SPI to hit up the warm water and return usually to a 2-3 foot base. Last year was exceptional with riding in early Nov....but the snowpack was too weak to booost without thoughts of splacking onto boulders and crusted sagebrush.

Since SW isn't flying to Harlington, we're flying to San Antonio and driving 4 1/2 hours to SPI. Sucks, but beats flying to Brownsville for $750 (cheapest we found it).

Good luck and give a shout out to the Boise crew when you roll through. Late

we're going to key west for a week the friday after turkey day. It looks like more of a light wind spot, kitehouse.com says that it averages 10 - 15 mph. So maybe it is kind of like cozumel. Should be fun, bummed that I need to get a bigger kite though.

Southwest still flies to Harlingen. You just can't book straight from PDX to HRL. You have to get one ticket for PDX-HOU, and another one for HOU-HRL. They may be able to book it striaght through if you call, but you might not get the web specials.

Thanksgiving Day might be too early for La Ventana. I was there last year, for the entire week I got only two hours of wind. I still enjoyed my time on the beach though.

Denise and I are flying on Continental from Seattle to Mcallin (75 miles to SPI) Nov. 22- Dec 1. Prices dropped by about $200 a ticket for us 2 nights ago... $530 RT (it was well over $700 last week).

The Drive from San Antonio to SPI is harsh, around 5 hrs if I remember correctly. Corpus is 1.5-2.

I think its more like 4.5 from San Antonio and 3 from Corpus
(36 straight from San Fran, we are driving down again for the month of Nov Very Happy)
Beware of San Antonio traffic, it can get ugly.

If you fly into San Antonio and if the forecast looks crap, you can hit up the Texas Ski Ranch cable park just north until it looks better. Plus, you won't find food better than what San Antonio has to offer. That's my recommendation.
