Two new world records were set earlier today. American Rob Douglas went 49.9 knots and on the very next run Sebastien Cattelan smashed the 50 knot barrier with a run of 50.1.

This is exciting but won't be real until the WSSRC ratifies it... lets hope the sailing cronies don't screw us! Very Happy

Well after the WSSRC weighed in, no 50 knots today... but we did take the outright speed record! and only .16 knots off of the 50 knot holy grail!

Awesome day for kiteboarding, showing the windsurfers and speed sailboats what's up! Very Happy ! Lets hope they can break the record by the end of the event!

Quote:
It was a massive day – record after record fell. All but the 50 knot milestone, which escaped by a 0.16 knot whisker. We have a new outright world record for speed sailing over 500m from Rob Douglas (US), a new women’s world record from Sjoukje Bredenkamp (ZA), and several national records.

Day 4 – 19 Sept (WSSRC ratified)

Top Three times:
Rob Douglas 49.84 (and new world record)
Sebastian Cattelan 49.59
Alex Caizergues 48.79

New women’s world record:
Sjoukje Bredenkamp 45.20 – beat her own record of 42.35

New South Africa (and Africa record): Hennie Bredenkamp 47.59 – beat her own record of 44.62

New Namibia record:
Jurgen Geiger 44.90 – beat his own record of 44.03

New UK kite record
David Williams 43.32 – previous was 41.38

Forecast for Saturday looks like another huge day.

thats impressive!

I've hit some pretty fast speed out in the butterslicks of floras, (stringers got a pick of me barefoot kiting Wink)

the lake is nowhere near long enough to count for any speed records, but i found as the beach comes up the best way to slow down is to send the kite....but its hard to edge for pop, it just slows you down dramaticaly.

can't even imagine that kind of speed.....remember that one time at band camp (SPI) when trying to hit 30 on a glide and a 9m was pushing it to the extreme? then I wiped out. i believe the guy without hair holding him back won that day. Very Happy
