hey Lee - it looks like IKE is headed (or at) Corpus. Hope you guys are doing alright.
I'm in NC, hoping to not encounter it myself.

I think we may luck out as the storm is tracking to our North and my go into Huston. At least Corpus is on the left side of the hurricane with less wind, less storm surge and no tornados. I've been here a week and have loved it, but this boarding up the house and all the related hurricane stress is getting to me. Maybe next week will bring back the good winds and good swell.

Thanks for the good wishes.
Lee

Damn, I miss Port A. Grew up going there and getting sunburns every summer. Truly a magical place. If you can get used to the brown bath tub water, you'll find it to be very beautiful there.

Looks like my dad made a wise decision postponing his corpus househunting trip. Maybe it will be easier for him to find a good one now, they'll be the only ones left standing!

He should buy in Portland, TX and then we can all go down and stay with him and kite Wildcat.

Forecasters said Ike's storm surge -- not high winds -- will be the deadliest aspect of the storm. The National Hurricane Center is forecasting a 20-foot surge for a large swath of Texas and the Louisiana coasts. Meteorologist Dennis Feltgen said some waves could be 50 feet tall.

Experts said Ike is about 70 percent larger than the average hurricane, and a 15- to 22-foot storm surge is expected wherever Ike makes landfall.

Here's a link if you want to see what Galveston is dealing with. It looks like we lucked out here in Corpus.

We lucked out down here in Corpus as Ike kept tracking to the North and missed us completely. I'm extremely happy that it missed us, but feel terrible for the folks up in Galveston and Huston. I watched a news report that said over 100,000 homes are underwater in that area.

Thanks for the good wishes.

flood insurance
another subsidized nightmare for taxpayers
"oh you want to build below sea level?"(or on a barrier reef)
no problem
we'll insure that (the public that is)
how many mansions do we have to rebuild
oh ya
all of em
"those with the gold make the rules"

Another susidized program gone wrong
There was time when only the very poorest would build where flooding would be a factor,
someone came along and said "we can't have all those poor people without homes"
Now the rich have "a home" along the water
if it gets ruined is no biggy
uncle sam will build me a nicer one in the same place

you don't mind do you?

What? You can't afford more taxes? Hey, I know, let's make an entity to subsidize that. Then everything will be alright.

What? It won't be? Hey, I know, let's make an entity to subsidize the mental restructuring needed to make you think it's patriotic to pay more taxes.

What? You don't have any money left? That's O.K. we'll make an entity to subsidize your income, so you can pay more taxes.

What? You don't want to pay more taxes? Well then, looks like we'll have to take your house then. O.K.?

What? We already took your house? That's O.K., we'll just lock you up and cloth and feed you and give you books to read and weight training.

What? You can't afford that? Don't worry, the other worker bees will subsidize that.

What? Yo' mamma? You can't talk that way! Off with your head. Exclamation Twisted Evil

Peace out Shocked
