Are you actually able to go upwind on easterlies in RR? Last few days on SI with tide coming in we saw plenty of beach walking action, and that made me wonder. Does the stronger wind make possible to go upwind and up the current at RR?

>>Does the stronger wind make possible to go upwind<<

Ya, the stronger the wind the easier it is. Seems like in really strong winds
you can point almost straight up wind (although you'll be going slow).
Especially if you ride that Mako board of yours Wink

When is the cock expected to crow tomorrow? Is dawn patrol likely?

Airnet is calling for the wind to peak at 2 pm... My guess is dawn patrol won't go, but who knows. Airnet is also calling for E @ 14, which means 20 or better at RR, if the forecast is good... I'm planning on hitting it about 11:00, but I'll be arriving by sea. Smile

I'm in if it starts up. See you out there.

As far as staying up wind, if it doesn't work out, down wind and jump out at PDX. Twisted Evil

When I was in the Gorge a month ago, I met GeneK at Newport and he told about launching at Dalton point for a downwinder to Rooster if the easterlies were not strong enough to stay upwind..

This morning's forecast:

TODAY...SUNNY. HIGHS 80 TO 85. EAST WIND 10 TO 20 MPH CASCADE LOCKS WESTWARD...AND EAST WIND 5 TO 10 MPH NEAR HOOD RIVER.

Right now Stevie's E @ 9, RR W @ 1, Troutdale N@ 3

Airnet is still forecasting Troutdale to be E @ 14 by 2:00 (Add a minimum of 5 to that for RR...)

So it kind of looks like a Maybe. If it doesn't take off I'm thinking Sauvies as a backup.

Edit to Add:

Gradients have been steadily increasing over the last 5 hours:
Portland - The Dalles
E 0.05 E 0.05 E 0.03 E 0.02 E 0.02 W 0.01

E @ .05 now. I'm trying to remember what a good gradient for RR is. it seems like I remember .07 being pretty good. Anyone else rember?

onsite report: (in car), just passed Dalton - its windy but not windy enough yet. Lots of white caps further east so I think its coming.
