i ran across a post somewhere where a guy was talking about finding a place near mt. st. helens where the trees had been destroyed by the volcano. Is this true? Is there a place to go around here?

if not, where is the closest place?
thanks!

www.ussnowkite.com This should help fill ya in a bit! JP and I rode up a Meadows (9:00PM hike up to Vista/Cascade) several weeks back and it was decent, but a little gusty. We were both playing on my 11m and it was fine till the 25-30mph gusts hit. In the lulls, it was hard to even keep the kite in the sky.

That was probably Me. I snowmobile and back country snowboard around St Helens.

If you can come accross a snowmobile I can direct you to some wide open areas to kite.
Let me know

There is a bunch of good snowkiting around H.R. when the snow levels come way down. However, once the pineapple express wrecks things you best bet is hoping in the car and heading towards Montana, Idaho, or Utah.

P.S. sorry, I had written NW instead of NE above so I fixed it.

This is near Tollgate:

TripCheck

111" snow and high winds sounds like the ticket.

Just out of curiousity, how long of a drive do you think it is from say Hood River? I like the sound of packed snow and high winds, but hopefully no more than I could hold on a 7m. Wink

3-4 hours should do it. Look for the Cabbage hill pass cam. If you go, please post some pics!

Anthony Lakes is actually south of La Grande
and west of North Powder (gotta like that name)
My daughter who has skied there says there is
some open terrain (fields) right before you
get to the ski area.

Tollgate is north of La Grande and has a
lodge Tamarack Inn that is popular
with the snowmobilers. I stole the picture
from their site.

I would Hein, but the man is working me like a dog (okay not really but he is requiring me to sit in my little cube all day.)

I might be able to head out there this weekend though...

I too have a rare free weekend. I think there is quite a storm coming in though. I wonder if it will be a whiteout.

Yes indeed, timing of the weather & personal schedule can be tough.
On the other hand, if you’re taking a sled to get into the snow kite launch, why not make the most of it & toe in?? No wind shouldn't mean no fun!

This may be a little off topic, but not that far off.

Check it out Artic Man! Shocked

What the event entails is the sled toes the skier/boarder from the start line to the top of the course & then sling shots the rider onto the downhill course where the rider tucks back to the bottom & stops the clock. Fastest time wins. Simple! All ya got to do is hang on, right!!

My brother (Robo) is a skier in the event & has placed in the top three in years past.

Can’t even begin to imagine getting towed at 80mph+ on a alpine race board!!

More Artic Man pictures...
