But with the west component the wind would roll over the trees on the Oregon side and create really bad lulls. I'm guessing the wind was WNW @ 5 - 18 or so? |
Frenchmans Bar was terrible as well. Which Woodland spot did you launch at? |

One of the best kiters in the NW(and gracious I might add ) once told me, for a nice, slow, high, backroll rotation, don't send the kite.
For Nikki and I, can you tell me where the kite should be? Should it be at 45 degrees at moderate speed?
Also, I feel like if I don't "huck" myself around, I won't be able to finish my rotation. Is that feeling, "just in my head"?
Thanks
Oh, by the way, I can't make it today, so can you guys save some wind for me for Friday? My wife's graduation ceremony is tonight. She completed Medical Billing/Coding at a locale biz college. So proud of her. She made the deans list! _________________ (>====<|> ---< Last edited by hamlindp on Thu Aug 14, 08 8:45 am; edited 1 time in total |

| Quote: | | Nice job, yesterday was progression day I guess... Next try the front rolls, they are even more fun, and actually much easier to land because you can spot your landing halfway through the rotation. |
Phil was talking about those a bit last night too....to do a front roll I just rotate the other way?
For the most part I would try to keep the kite high and not move it. One time I moved it and went for a superman for about 200 feet down wind...Big Thanks to Dano for getting my board for me on that one
It's hard to do work today all I want to do is go kite... |

The main beach there at Lyons. It was rideable with a 15m Rev, but went from barely slogging to nicely powered and back each tack. |

Front rolls take a bit to learn, but are much more rewarding. The hard part is that when you pop, you are basically setting up for a backroll by rotating upwind. To do the front roll you have to:
1. stomp you back foot down hard right before your board completely leaves the water. This stops your backroll rotation and starts your front roll.
2. Tuck your head down and toward the direction you want to turn (opposite of the backroll's looking-over-shoulder technique)
3. Tuck your back leg in to allow yourself to turn faster
It took me quite a bit longer to learn these, mostly because initializing the opposite rotation is pretty tricky, but they are fun! |

Every time I try one of these it seems like my back foot comes out of my binding... _________________ Let's go kite. |

Hey Nic, congrats that is a huge accomplishment and you're really inspiring all of us to just get past our mental blocks on trying new tricks. Can't wait to see your backrolls in action. |
