Hey team,
Anyone know if Devils Lake has decent wind or an open launch spot? Girlfriend got a lake house for the long weekend and checking to see if I should bring gear or not
Thanks!

If you’d rather flail in turd water than rides waves in the ocean, I think it’s a great plan.
Water quality updates should (COVID-permitting) begin this weekend:

Forecast looks epic...

I was barely able to windsurf there a decade ago there. I can not imagine kiting there. The better option other than the ocean is Siletz Bay with north wind and near max tide. The wind is very gusty on the lake.

Mr. Hanky questions the "epic" forecast. Mr. Hanky also says since there will be little wind, to bring your bathing suit so you can join him and all his brown smelly friends for a long soak in Devils Lake.

There is way better kitesurfing available right across the highway in the Pacific Ocean. Devil's Lake is a small tree-lined pond with 99% of the shoreline locked up by private property. Ho-Toe is spot on with the place having questionable water quality with regular testing for E-coli and blue-green algae, yuk!
I have looked at it a number of times on different wind directions and due west wind does funnel down the past the Hwy 101 bridge and appears to be okay for wind quality. But, of all the wind directions that can be kited on the coast, due west wind is certainly the rarest. I never ventured out for a session because of the lake's history with unhealthy water issues. Anymore, the place is not even on my radar and I live fairly close by.
