HI, Anyone been to Pichilemu for kbing the last few years or know someone I could contact? I have a few other ideas why I want to head down down that way and Pichi could be part of the journey. I can't find any recent travel review sources, so feedback welcome. Thanx |

We have been kitesurfing on 2 trips to Chile in the past 4 years. There are a few good options for great wind and surf. Gorge kiter, Anton P, has lived in Pichilemu for over 10 years and has a great surf hostel right next to the main break. Super guy that earlier this year was having some legal difficulties with ownership of property, not sure how that turned out. Great kite community in Pichilemu as well as other surf towns. |

Better be ready for some heavy waves, even in summer. Bring extra bars or just chicken loops to replace the ones that blow apart when you pull through the back of waves getting barreled. I had to have 2 bars sent when I was there for 6 months and missed some really good kite sessions I had to watch from my surfboard.
Matanzas is about an hour drive north. Park in Las Brisas and kite upwind about a mile to roca quadrada. Some of the heaviest waves you can kite when it is above 6 feet. Also go surf puertocillo if the swell gets big, the waves are so good.
In pichilemu proper you can kite infernillo all day right in town. It is also a really heavy barreling left and the wind is usually pretty good direction for turns and barrels. On the other side of the bay is La Puntilla and it is the longest wave in chile. We timed a guy riding for 3 minutes plus one time. Email Anton and he will hook you up. antonhood@hotmail.com |
