Wed Aug 01, 12 3:04 pm Waterproof headphones good for kiting |
|
|
Hey,
I love doing everything with music and now I'm going to try to kite with music, I think that would rock. The only thing is, is that everywhere I look the only thing I see are those shitty little ear buds that always fall out of my ears even when I'm just walking around. So I know if I'm kiting they definitely wont stay in my head. Anybody have any good recommendations for good waterproof headphones that will actually stay in your ears???
Thanks NWKiters! _________________ Live to kite another day |

Waterfi.com. they sponsor a bunch of young kitesurf pros like Patrick Rebstock.
They double as ear plugs to prevent surfer's ear.

I use these ones:
http://www.pyleaudio.com/sku/PWPE10B/Waterproof-Marine-Headphones--Earbuds-compatible-w-MP3-players-and-iPods(Black-Color)
I took the ear wrap attachments off... the headphones work great, but a couple of things to note:
-you really have to cram them in there for the low end to sound good... when you do, they really act like ear-plugs... muffling most noise ("dude, could I get a launch? = "dubffer loood ret a luucch?").
-the rubber ear-buds detach very easily, often staying in your ear when you try to take them off... no problem to get them out, but its easy to have them fall off when you're not wearing them, and lose the buds.
Having tunes on the water is great though... I'd also recommend an arm-band for easy access to your MP3 player. |

Hey thanks all! I think the buds will fall out of my ears just like they do when I'm walking around but I'll give them a shot I guess. Thanks for all the help you guys are always just dishing out here, it's super cool!
And I don't work for KATU, I just was on their news program last year, and people call me K2, and thought it was funny... I need to change my avatar though. _________________ Live to kite another day |

We met this hilarious older kiter dude named Joe, in Baja a couple of years ago - he's a Waddell kiter out of Santa Cruz. He had a helmet with speakers that blasted out music to the world around him - not into his ears. And he blasted classic rock - Led Zeppelin, etc.
So you get to talking to him, and he says he rides a twin tip at Waddell, and while all the other kiters are riding surfboards down the line, he just rips his TT for huge air off the lip, in and out, across all the other kiters' paths going up and down, with his classic rock blasting all around him.
So after listening to him for a while, someone says "ummm, so are you popular down there?" Naw, nobody will even talk to me, he concedes.
He was in his second week of cannabis-sobriety after 40 years of hard 420 use, so we got to calling him Tokeless Joe.
Sorry to digress, you can return to the topic. |
