Ok so help me out if you have seen the series whale wars.
So at first I thought Paul Watson and his traveling band of vegan animal lovers were pretty slick and had well thought of methods to harass whalers.
After this season, I have kind of changed my mind. Now they seem like a disorganized group of douche bags who are effectively doing nothing to stop or slow the Japanese whaling fleet. Oh gee, you mean a 180 ft, 5000 HP boat managed to cut your nylon prop fouler? Huh, whats that? You can't manage to throw your stink bomb through a net?
Seems to me that if they wanted to be bad ass then they would get some C4 or a bigger ship and start ramming and sinking shit. Come on, there HAS to be a place to buy torpedoes. no?
So I'm looking for a simple yeah or neah. Balls of steel eco warriors --or --- bunch of misguided, ineffective hippies? |

I'm pretty sure torpedoing other nations "fishing/whaling" fleets would be considered "crossing the line" and frowned upon internationally.

sounds like they should sail under the USA flag instead of the Dutch flag.
Maritime law is a biotch!
they are not allowed, according to the dutch, to throw from the 'steve erwin' instead they have to throw from the zodiaks .
I suggest a water balloon launcher! to get over the fire hoses and LRAD devices. OOO. OR a potato gun, such as they one we will aim and d@#% Boaters at SI
AT LEAST THEY HAVE HELICOPTER ON BOARD. THAT'S AT LEAST 'NOT DUTCH, WHOOPS, DOUCHE BAG'. |

So much money is involved in paying off officials, the vastness of the ocean, and lack of resources mean that illegal fishing will run rampant until consumers stop wanting shark fin soup, tuna, etc. Fisherman are no longer fishing to feed the village, they are trying to get ahead just like everyone else, they have become blinded to overfishing a resource and the importance of balance. _________________ MS |

At least they've found a way to make it entertaining and educational for the rest of us, I'd say that's pretty effective. |

I agree PDXMB- Those clowns don't know what they are doing and are going to hurt or kill themselves soon. The show is hard for me to watch. |

some insider scoop on PW... he was a teacher at my school (Art Center College of Design) and was know for douche-bagish behavior back then (1989-91). he f___ed my then girlfriend who was also a student. took her to his boat (not the steve irwin), showed off his reptiles and banged her in the bowels of the ship probably.
the Sea Shepherd cause is awesome. the means and processes by which they attempt to effect this cause is questionable at the very least. just not that intelligent.
Watson is an idiot. always has been from my perspective. as captain, he strategically places his crew in a position to take all of the heat if something legal goes down. he rarely get into legit trouble because he claims that his crew acted on their own, without his direct order and sometimes against his order. its part of the Steve Irwin sign-on agreement as a crew member. |
