Sun Jun 21, 09 9:06 pm Fins question |
|
|
| I know everyones way over twin tips and fins and they are sooo 2007. But Im still in the early progression stages, and havent been able to step up to a directional quite yet. Anyway, lost one of the fins to my LF proof today and am gonna try a pair off my Best board which are way longer and a bit taller hopefully on tues. Kinda curious as to what to expect and how the different sizes play a roll in the ride. Hopin to get some insight before ordering some new replacements. Any opinions? |

never been on the proof but have the LF mission. Took the fins completely off and the board is a better board. Goes upwind better and has way better pop. Feels slippery at first and might take some getting used to but you're
usually on edge anyway and isn't that huge of a change. |

bigger fins == more load and pop and more bite, less forgiving
smaller fins or no fins == more skatey feeling, better upwind drive because there is no drag from the fins, less water spray in the face
i still ride with straps a 2" fins on my lunacy. i like the pop you get from having fins, and also fins are important to help stabilize super hot / fast landings from a megaloop. |

I would not recommend learning without fins. There is a definite lack of stability you will get, and landing from jumps is much easier with fins.
As far as upwind goes, it is very dependent on the type of fin. No fins is definitely less drag, but depending on your board fins can be crucial for going upwind. |
