Very cool video---very well done.
NWers owe it to Jack for his inventive spirit.

three most important things in life: surf, surf, and surf. Jack O'neill has his priorities straight.

Cool article about the inventor.
Well Jack definitely commercialized it and packaged it first.
And I can truthfully say that I prefer cold water surfing because we cheat the elements and get less crowded waves in convenient locations.

Same goes for kiting on the Oregon/Washington coast.

I once read an interesting story in Surfers Journal about how the first surfer in mainland US was most likely from Washington State----Aloha Washington---and not Santa Cruz.
I think Santa Cruz still claims they are the first place surfed in the US mainland----surfed by Tom Blake.

It's good to see an educational program targeted at kids about the ocean and importance of its water quality. A few weeks ago I was walking down Wasco Street in a rain storm watching a big, thick oil slick roll down the street by the skate park, flowing into drains just blocks away from the Columbia, thinking "Damn, I wouldn't want to swim in that! Oh wait...". I think we underestimate our own contribution to water pollution in not keeping our cars in shape (and probably driving them too much to begin with). Anyhow, not to get preachy or off-topic - the video is quite well put together. I was actually getting chills looking at that cold water!

Agreed.
When I lived in San Diego for 3 years I constantly had ear infections and gastrointestinal aches....
I would watch yuppie mothers let their kids play in the 'streams' flowing into the ocean-----even though the RED sign by the 'stream' said 'do not let children play in this stream because it contains detergents and chemicals from street runoff'

Our coastal towns are small---- so not too much runoff here.
But the big river definitely brings it down from the cities in the upper Columbia....so it all matters.
