| Yea? Give me the specs! I'm just getting up to speed on all this stuff, but I've been looking at the Giant Reign X0. I'm definitely digging all the technical tuning info I've been reading lately about adjusting your shocks/forks. I like to geek out on these types of things and didn't think I would find that with Mtn Biking. |

Hicks aren't supposed to geek out. Get your story straight.
The riding did look fun though. _________________ The Slider Project, LLC

Honestly I keep most of the tuning stuff turned off when I ride because rebound and compression controls only slow down the suspension rate therefore causing it to be less responsive. I like shocks to soak up everything they can when I ride.
I do keep a little rebound control dialed into the rear shock though so that it doesn't launch me over the handlebars after its compression stroke.
the only thing I really use is I just engage the gate valve on the front fork when I'm climbing. its kinda like a lockout except it gives way at an adjustable point when you hit something hard or forget to switch it off when you start riding back down the trail.
Here's the ad's for my 2 bikes.

I was riding the bighit in the video. it is the heavier/bullitproof bike of the 2. the diamondback is all air suspension and has a lighter duty frame so it is a significantly lighter bike.
I would say the bighit is best suited for all mountain, freeride and light downhill
the diamondback is probably more of an XC, singletrack, all mountain bike. _________________ www.youtube.com/c/christianjohnsons |

| My money was burning a hole in my pocket... Nevermind the shitty economy, I just bought Katie and I downhill mountain bikes. I got the Giant Reign X1 and Katie got the Giant Cypher 2. So stoked and my legs are jello after rushing up to ride this evening... Landed in the dirt off that drop on Middle School on my second try! Few more runs and I'm ready for Drop-Out! |

Forest, I hope you invested in a full face helmet. If you really want to put that Giant to the test, we should go hit up whistler in two weeks. I will be officially on vacation and would love to hit the bike park up.
Whistler WILL blow your mind. The downside is that riding anything this side of the border will seem like hopping curbs afterwards but I'm telling you, its soooo fucking money.
Check out this video of A-line. Couple thousand vertical feet of hand crafted, beautifully spaced gaps and table tops. I think there is 30 something jumps on this one trail.

Yea, I didn't get one yet because we were in a bit of a hurry. I am wearing a protect skateboard helmet that I've had for like 10 years. I'll upgrade soon for sure.
I'm pretty happy with the small stuff. I don't want to go to big to soon and end up hurt or even worse, bored of it. I was just so stoked that I even went for the drop in the first place.
I'm pretty happy to just do it around here. I'm only a few miles from the bottom of Post Canyon and that's what allowed me to justify buying the bikes in the first place. I don't need another reason to travel... As if kiting and cable lakes weren't bad enough. |

| Day 2. Went way to big on the step-up booter in Drop Out resulting in the worst heal bruise I've ever had. At least I can still peddle! |

Come on, you can't get injured on day 2. Take it easy at least for a few rides. _________________ The Slider Project, LLC

how did you bruise your heel? I remember one of my Post canyon crashes, came down right ontop of my triple crown fork (the part that the fork tube passes through). huhrt like hell, thought I just bruised my muscle. 20 minutes later I thought "man, i'm sweating like a pig" Looked down at my shins pads...covered in blood. I took a quarter sized chunk out of my inner thigh. All that white grisly shit sticking out...yummy!!
Seriously though, Whistler man. You'll progress more during a weekend at whistler than a year riding in PC. Think about it!! |

I'd love to go to whistler, but I'm going to make mountain biking more of something I can have fun doing in my front yard. I don't want it to become kiting. Kiting is something I like to do to progress... Mtn Biking is just for exercise and relaxing.
Not sure if you're familiar with Drop Out. There is a drop that you can roll off of, then it goes downhill to a step up dirt booter. Basically, I took it to slow the first time, second time my speed was right but I slammed on the breaks right after landing and flew over the handle bars (ran it off for the most part only skinning my hands a little), third time I had too much speed and got a little sideways off the ramp. In the air I realized I was going to kind of overshoot the landing so put my foot down as I landed really hard. |
