I'm not sure what your skill level is, but Corpus is not a beginner friendly location. The launches all have some sort of hazard and you need to be able to stay upwind or have a down winder pre planned. The location I kite at has power lines and rocky jetties all within a 150 feet of the lauching area as well as metal fence posts out in the water. Now if you have the skills this place is Great!
I'll ask arond about hotels or condos but I know it's not as cheap as SPI.

depending on where you want to kite there are a bunch of different options. You can stay out on North Padre Island & be near Laguna Madre and the beach, but there isn't much going on out there if you are with any non-kiters.
There are a bunch of hotels right downtown Corpus which puts you about 30 minutes from the beach, but you can ktie right in the bay downtown. Better option if you have non-kiters. |

Bandito, that sounds like a "don't come to my beach" post if I've ever heard one. I grew up going to Corpus and SPI, and I know you're full of it. JP Luby is about as friendly as it gets, especially in March. No offense, all's fair in love and localism.
Ron, there are some amazing condos right on the gulf in Port Aransas. They're a bit further (20 Minutes from Packery Channel and JP Luby, 35 from WildCat) from the mainland kiting spots, but they're way more Vacation like. Plus, you can kite right out in front of the condos on the beach.
We always stay at the Port Royal cause it has a really great pool. Though you might not be using it in March: http://www.port-royal.com/ |

| I thought bird Island was closed to the public? I know it's owned by H.E.B. Damn I miss pre-marinated fajita and brisket. H.E.B. was the best grocery store EVER! |

I think it is only closed to kiting, you can still windsurf there.
The marinated fajitas/chicken are great. Eat em all the time...... |

How fast can you swim?
Surfboy, think you could pack some of those up in dry ice and ship them to me if I paid you? |

JP Luby huh... that's a great place to ride if you like on shore wind and blown flat surf. If the waves are where you plan to ride then SPI is much better. It has deeper water so the waves form better and the wind is much more sideshore than up here in corpus.
Packery Channel. Well when you launch there make sure to take a look at the power lines just behind the launch and you'll notice the "Cross" on the power pole where Scott Norby died a few years ago. You also might want to aske some of the locals about the oster beds out there and what might happen if you are dragging through the water and have an encounter. I know of one local that cut his leg open so badly that he almost died. There are many other stories of people getting very badly cut up as well.
bulae99,
Come on down and we can ride together. Packery will be our first stop. Be sure to look me up.

It's all good, localism part of the deal in the gorge too. It seems like this spot your talking about is a dangerous launch.
I'm good enough to launch anywhere but I prefer to kite where I'm safe.
Thanks for all the heads up nw kite folks. I have found a place to stay! My friends sister is letting me rent a room for the week.
At this point I'm deciding what to do for a car. Might fly into Alb, NM and borrow my sisters truck and then drive down. _________________ Hey, I'm being hahahahahrassed! |
