T & I caught a fun afternoon session at Pistol River and then spent the night there. We played in the river for a while then did a waves sesh. Tony saw a fin so I rode heel to toe side and didn't want to fall in on the surfboard. We saw a seal a little later at the river entrance so decided to call it quits at the sunset feeding time. Here's a few pics. We're heading south now, but we haven't found wind yet.

cool pics.
I love places with unique geography (sandbars, etc), so you can cruise around and jump things.
keep posting pics of your trip.
Sherman Is. maybe?

Pistol River was pretty unique. Shooting the mouth of the river was pretty fun. It's only about 15 to 25' wide at the narrowest point and the water starts flowing pretty fast as it necks down.

As the tide went down there was a set of standing waves right at the mouth of the river I was able to ride and basically stay in one spot if I wanted. Was fun sliding left and right in the current but not moving forward or backward very much! Would have been more fun with the surfboard but I was afraid of breaking a fin as the river shallowed up pretty quick near the edges. Pics below of stupid river surfing.

After playing in the river for a bit we grabbed the surf boards and played in the waves for about an hour and a half. Nothing spectacular but decent 4 to 6 footers for a while.

Coast was foggy today so no kiting between Pistol River and Arcata.

Tony

Could be some wind for Bodega Bay on Sunday. I will be there if it blows. Flat water-Bodega harbor, Waves-Salmon Creek. Monday looks to be better except for us working stiffs Mr. Green

Very later Sunday chance of gusty NW clearing wind focused near the coast. Monday NW clearing winds peak. Tuesday only Waddell hits upper teens.
Sunday the upper trough begins to pass over us and the late in the day surface NW wind from the North Pacific High ramps up. Meanwhile gusty NW wind develops on the ridges. It will be a race with the clock and the wind may arrive after dark. But if we are lucky and it arrives early the wind focus will be at the coast and sites directly down wind of NW facing gaps in the coast range. Monday brings steadier NW clearing winds as the North Pacific High moves towards us. Best bets are Bodega, Waddell followed by Crissy, Stick, Coyote and 3rd. Ave. Tuesday: the wind goes more NNW to NNE and only Waddell reaches upper teens.

Sunday:
Late in the day there is a chance of very gusty upper teens to low 20 for Waddell and Bodega with later and lighter winds at Crissy, TI, Stick, 3rd., Coyote.

Monday:
Upper teens to near mid 20's at Waddell and maybe Bodega. Crissy has wind close to the beach and hits low 20's mid bay. Treasure Island, Stick Crissy, Coyote & 3rd. are a bit weaker. Berkeley mid to upper teens but may be very up and down.

Tuesday:
Waddell has a chance of upper teens. Crissy, Coyote & 3rd. peak in the mid to upper teens if the wind aloft is not too NNE.

9:20 p.m. Saturday night and we just arrived in Bodega Bay! Loooong winding drive down the coast today. Very scenic and rugged but very very few places to kite between Westport and Bodega Bay. Lots of cliffs and massive kelp beds. A couple of sandy coves here and there that might work if the wind was blowing from the right direction. Hard to tell today as there was no wind to be seen anywhere.

Hopefully we get some wind here tomorrow!

Tony
