Wed Aug 20, 08 2:41 pm Question from anonymus PM'er to me recently... |

ok question for you from a beginner. Let's say you are in overpowering conditions all of a sudden somewhere like hr spit or lyle and there is lots of dry real estate down wind that would hurt to get mashed on...how low should you be flying your kite in the window?

Flag your kite!
I sent the pm'r a request for location, wind speed, and kite size etc. and got this
Its just a mythical situation. Let's say 10 m, begin-early intermediate, wind picks up to 30 plus with gusts and you have already pulled out all the depower and you are heading in. Sounds like putting it at 3 or 9 and tapping your head is the best you can do if there are people around to catch. Ready to hit release if for some reason it slides in to power zone. In the past I have left it at 12 and not been lifted but it sounds like there is potential there for getting lofted. I wish we had better lauches that were clear down wind.

Thu Aug 21, 08 5:47 am I sent a post to the person who pm'ed me and asked for: |
|
|
I asked for details: wind speed, kite size, rider skill, and exact location.
This is real question from a beg. who is scared to post on this forum becuase of the caustic responses from a select few tools. _________________ Hey, I'm being hahahahahrassed! |

This the correct method
If you are getting overpowered and the kite is low,
you could stuff it in the water or let it run into something (before you do)
it will stop long enough to deploy safety
No one should be coming here for beginner questions (unless you verify )
taking info from the "internets"
and using it in real life could be harmful |

Thu Aug 21, 08 8:47 am 12 high is bad place to leave your kite because... |
|
|
If anything happens and you take a scoup out of the power window you are going for a ride.
If you leave the kite down you may take a ride, land plow, but the impact is going to be less..maybe.. if you don't hit something.
I have seen guys at the spit holding their kite straight up at 12 high. They get comfy and walk in and leave it there. Then as they get hit by a gust they get lofted and then slammed.
12 noon is a bad place to leave the kite when you come in. Also, bring your kite down and have somebody grab it asap. Don't walk around with people below you demonstrating your kite control ability. Just land your kite asap. _________________ Hey, I'm being hahahahahrassed! |

That is THE correct answer. If your walking on the beach, keep your kite at a 45 unless the conditions are super light, then it is generally ok to drink beer with your kite at 12:00. |
