The forecasts all say it will be crap but the conditions and actuals look promising so far. I'm going to check the actuals about 3pm and make my call.

One bad factor today is the tide. Low tide is around 4pm today, which means we'll have an incoming tide until dark. River levels are predicted to drop from 8' down to 5' at St Helens today, so tide is probably going to be a factor.

The good factor is that its going to be hot and sunny. I have beer and I'd rather be outside than inside, so for me it's probably worth it even if its sketch.

Eat a big can of beans for lunch. Your going to need the extra gas turbo propulsion system because it looks rather light. Razz

It looks like it's in the "might work" category to me. Current readings are:

Columbia City 10g10NNW 14:49
Sauvie Island DEQ 6N 14:00
Scappoose 5N 13:53
Fremont Bridge 9g11N 14:42

Those aren't too bad for readings between 2-3pm.

The pressure and temp gradients are backing off tho, and there's a haze in the NW (not good signs). And the tide will suck.

I need to get out tho. Leaving about 4pm. Call for an onsite if you want. If I don't pick up that might be a good sign.

Got some. After a slow start, it went solid 13M despite solid cloud cover. I really didn't think it was going to pick up because of all the haze, but it did.

At first it was barely kiteable. Then around 5:30 or 6pm, it picked up and filled in nicely. There were about 6-7 of the usual suspects out. Good fun.

I actually called Christiano shortly after 5pm and told him not to bother coming out because I figured the cloud cover would kill the PM surge. He's gonna be pissed....

I'm kinda baffled by this, but the current forecasts (and actuals so far) are for South or SW today! That's just wrong for a clear sunny day.....
Confused

There is a cold front that has kind of stalled on the coast right now. Also, today was one of the lowest tides in history or something like that on the coast and the peak of the incoming flood (which means you can subtract a couple knots from the wind) is at 5pm.

Add all that bad news together, sprinkle a little airnet westerly forecast and what do you have?

A big pile of dogshit that people will still drive 45 minutes to huddle around.

Forecasting 12N tomorrow afternoon. high tide at 5:42 though. Hmmmmmm mow the lawn on big kites or fly 7's in the gorge. decisions decisions.

maybe some land boarding at brown then?

doood, flydunes, I got some Terrantula food from the breeder. so lets skip hanging at the dog pile and stay home feeding terrantulas and drinking beer 1,000 insects or so.

btw

Yikes, I just realized I'm a day behind on my schedule, we're supposed to be paragliding the wsw winds at 8-13mph on ecola

pdx, 1 to beam to the gorge please! I'm too...ummm, just can't drive that far today.

Good kite buggying at Brown today that just got better and better till the damn soccer rats came and took over. It got way West though so I'm betting that PDXmb got the goods at the airport.
