So the ODFW released the draft version of their 10-year management plan. I have yet to read through the entire document but their is some interesting sections about the possibility of limiting beach goers if yearly visitor counts get above a million a year.
Anyways, if you kite at sauvie a bunch and ever wondered what the wildlife area was all about, this is a great opportunity to find out how the island is managed, what the goals are, and how kiters and other recreational people fit into the mix.

Oh yeah, the document also give a small glimpse into what natural resource managers have to do to manage diverging interests, resource pressures, and all the things that go on behind the scenes. So next time you think that a decision made by the forest service, ODFW, WDFW, railroad or any other public agency is completely stupid; hopefully you realize that there is often times a good reason for the decision. |
