I'm looking for input on the reliability of the various sensor sites on the net. There seems to be a lot of variance between many of the sites and it's difficult to figure out which is the most reliable.
For instance, in looking at the wind in HR today, windonthewater.com never got above around 10mph, where ikitesurf had the average at 16.5 all day. Since I'm in Vancouver, I have no idea which is actually correct at the current time so it is affecting my ability to plan.
I realize this is a very general question and there are probably a great deal of factors, but if some of you vets wouldn't mind chiming in that would be great.

True wind = current reading + the number of days since the sensor had it's last squirt of WD-40. |

As far as I know, iwindsurf/ikitesurf is the only place where you can access data from sensors that were specifically installed, located, and calibrated to reflect the wind conditions on the water at the various launch sites.
The "free" sites only show sensors that (for the most part) are maintained by the government and located at airports, along the highway, etc.
It is important to know where the data is coming from, and how to interpret it correctly. |

WRONG. yes, ikite does install sensors on occasion. however, the majority of these sensors were already installed and they just access the readings. like the Sauvie sensor that is located immediately downwind of a grove of mature trees.
Someone posted before that the difference between ikitesurf and i windsurf was the height of the sensors over the water..each specifically calibrated to the intended audience. Which has to be the dumbest thing I've heard in awhile. |

| So it sounds like some of the sensors accessed by ikite are also used by the other free sites? |

More like, the sensors that other agencies install, are accessed for free by Ikite.
three words:
wind on the water.

| On iwindsurf/ikitesurf, the sensors that show in yellow are maintained by them (Weatherflow). The sensors that show in white are not. Most of the sensors in the PDX area and along the coast are white and that data is available for free all over the web. Most of the key sensors in the Gorge are yellow and that data is only available with a paid account. |
