First of all you have your sports mixed up. Parasailers are better know as dope on a rope. Not much of that is done around Northwest. This is a kitesurfing/kiteboarding site. I think you may be looking for Paragliding site. Big event in Southen Oregon this weekend, Starthistle Fly-in.

Go to Stevenson. Go to the water (Close to Walking Man Brewery). Don't go early because we're lazy. It's called Kiteboarding or Kitesurfing.
If you wanna check out some bad ass kiteboarding Photography check out http://www.henryrico.com/HR/Intro.html . There are lots of photographers around, pro and amateur. Lots of them put there photos up on this site.

Using the correct terminology is the first thing get right.
Parasailing is a tourist sport behind a boat getting pulled on a string with a round chute with large holes for air to pass through.
Paragliding is more like a kite and is designed for free flight and soaring in thermals. Only well trained indviduals are allowed to take part and a mandatory USHPA licsence is usually required.
Speed flying is near the same as paragliding but uses a very small chute compared to a paraglider. All pilots are required to be advanced paraglider pilots or advanced Free fall pilots.
I doubt you will see anyone but possibly a speed wing in the gorge. At least in the summer.
You may want to travel to the coast, wood rat or southern oregon coast to witness these marvels.
Paragliders you won't see if the wind gets anywhere near 20mph
anything over 20 you may see a speed wing. But as the sport is still only a couple of years old there are only a handful of daredevils doing it. |
