Sat May 09, 09 6:15 am Northern Italy Kiting? |
|
|
Looks like we have a project coming up that is going to take us to Milan, Italy for a week to work with the client and we're trying to figure out someplace to go kiting while we're there. Does anyone know anything about kiting in northern Italy? We're hoping to find something within a couple of hours of Milan. Any other tips on things to see and do while we're there? This is going to be Carol's first trip to Europe!

| Lake Garda is a good. You need to get up early for the morning sesh and then the wind switches direction for an evening sesh. It is a really big lake. The northern end of the lake has stronger wind. I think lake como is the other lake that is close to Milan. Get a GPS. Navigating can be confusing.

Thanks Scottman, good tip on the GPS.
Also checking in to catching a quick flight down to Sardinia as it looks a little warmer and has a few more options. Anyone got any info of the area? We'd like to score some waves if we can.

Any good riding beaches or wave riding areas near Sardegna/Sardinia or would you suggest somewhere else on the north or south IT coast.
We're looking at flying out of Milan to somewhere for 3-4 days and so looking for a 2 hr or less flight to somewhere.
thanks

| several years ago while traveling there were some kites up just north of Rome that I saw from the train. I didnt have any gear with me so i didnt check it out. I also heard of people driving to a spot from Rome. I dont ahve any details but could be worth checking into more. there are also spots along the east coast but dont know any names.

If you're looking for 3-4 day trip it might be worth your time to fly just a little farther afield. There are a gazillion last minute tour operators in europe and you can find last minute deals going EVERYWHERE..especially for a 3 day trip. My wife and I went from Munich to Portimao, Portugal (on the beach) for 2 weeks. We got RT airfare, hotel and a daily full blown buffet breakfast for 256 euros apiece (about $350). Another time we flew from Salzburg to Gran Canaria (canary islands) and got RT flights and hotel for 600 (like $780) euros per person...FOR A MONTH!
Unless your schedule is super tight, since you're in Europe already and looking for a side trip go wild! Make it a 4 hr flight instead of a 2 hour and you can get to ALOT of places from Milan. Tarifa, Canary Islands (my absolute favorite), Greece, Mallorca is really nice, anywhere on the Med. etc....
Just my $.02

Sardegna goes off all summer long. Water temps in the 70s. It is Euros version of Maui and turns on like a machine.
On a trip to Europe in 1999 with my AR-5 quiver I got skunked in Germany, Switzerland, N. Italy (Lake Como)and Chinque Terra Coast(sp?). When I got to Rome I talked to an Itallian who said "YOU MUST GO TO SARDEGNA." And that it my advise to you. "YOU MUST GO TO SARDEGNA." The place is SICK.
This photo is from '99. I'm sure it's mostly kiters now
