does anyone know which brands+models have epoxy kitesurf boards?
when I'm looking around, it's kinda hard to tell, because so many are composite with EPS.
but composite epoxy with EPS core must be weaker than true epoxy.

I know its kinda heretical to say, but I'm sick of glassed boards. I want one i can drive over, and don't really care about the loss in sensitivity.

What is meant by true epoxy? You generally saturate fiberglass, carbon, etc with epoxy to create the shell of a surfboard / kiteboard.

ok:
so there's regular polystyrene clark foam.
and then there's "epoxy". i guess i don't really know what epoxy means.
is it foam covered in epoxy? or no foam at all?
Basically i want the most durable material for a kitesurfing board. and, I'm not sure what that is.

Shy showed a few of us some wick light hollow carbon fiber surfboards. Thats about as indistructable as you can get! Aviso?? or something close is the manufacture.

polystyrene (clark foam) and eps (expanded polystyrene) are both foam, used to shape the board. polyester resine soaked fiberglass or epoxy soaked fiberglass is then used in layers to provide a shell (4 oz top, 6 oz bottom).
Im not quite sure how the "Production epoxy boards" are made, similar process Im sure with a gel coat. Machine made cooky cutter style, every unit identical

old technology = poly boards (polystrene covered in polyester resine)

Newer technology = epoxy boards (eps covered in epoxy resine)

Production boards = most likely polystrene covered in epoxy resine and a nice M&M gel coat.

Uber technology = hollow carbon fiber boards.....I so want to ride one,or do I ?????

NO SURFBOARD IS INDUSTRUCTABLE, Im sure if you found one it would ride like poo!

the problem with carbon surfboards is that carbon has no 'puncture' strength. It is very strong 'end to end' making it stiff and more difficult to break in half, but if the board hits a sharp rock, it's going to poke a hole in it. I always thought the perfect mixture would be CF with Kevlar, best of both worlds!

(sorry for the composite geek rant!) Smile

It's pretty clear that you guys don't know much about surfboard construction techniques.
Let me Google that for you. Pick a few of the results and read, read, read.
Then feel free to come back and ask some specific informed questions.

My board is made with pixie dust and Cyanoacrylate

I read this one:

http://360guide.info/surfing/surfboard-construction.html?Itemid=6

So which process does Slingshot use for their surfboards?

Guessing that it is injection moulded, but was hoping for clarification.

That's a good start, there is more. You'll become more enlightened as you read about the same concepts described by different authors and sources. When you get around epoxy infused balsa skinned EPS boards then you're starting to get the whole picture. Pretty sure I posted a construction video made by Greg Loehr at Cerritos College a while back. Someone search for that.

P.S. Here's the thread

2cd that. Cool SURFTECH boards have nice construction and super star shapers like Yater, Rusty etc. They have cross over boards too - use them w/ kite or paddle into the wave. They do cost a little $$$ tho.

Surftech TL2 Fletcher Quad is the money board so far for us in the Gorge.
We should have a demo available soon, and our shipment arrives sometime later this month.

I liked my Surftech Rusty Project 5-10 and 6-1 before I got my own shapes dialed. Quads are old news. It's time to get back to thrusters. If I were getting a Surftech, I'd be temped to try TL2 construction. Strapless of course.
