Sat Mar 07, 09 11:59 pm OT: Oregon bill to register bicycles |
|
|
Those of you who own and ride bikes and are over 17 might want to take a look at this: http://bikeportland.org/2009/03/06/a-conversation-with-rep-krieger-about-his-bike-registration-bill/. The proposal would require Oregonians to pay $54 every other year to license each of their bicycles ("pay their fair share" according to the author). This is the same cost as a motor vehicle fee and would include any bicycle ridden on the road (including, for instance, riding your mountain bike down May Street to go to Post Canyon). And yes, that's $54 per bicycle.
Search comments for "Pete" to see the email I wrote to my representative (Suze Van Orman for Hood River, who I highly doubt would support this bill anyway). I'm asking especially constituents of Rep. Krieger to take the time to register your opposition to this bill. Even if you agree with the premise of this bill, read it thoroughly and you may just agree with me that it's incomplete with regards to enforcement, at the very least.
In my comment on bikeportland is a link you can use to find your representative's contact info. |

| that's kind of tweeked. It is a good diea if all the fund went directly into new bike paths and safety improvements. But you know how that thing kind of goes. |

Add that right along with the 1200% tax hike on beer and Oregon will soon beat Washington as the 4th highest taxed state in the US. Why do people keep voting in these idiots. I got taxes on top of my taxes, then you cant forget the "fees". AKA "taxes". |

what are you bitching about? You guys don't have a state income tax.. so you have a hefty sales tax. We in oregon are just the opposite.
BTW, Washington's tax ranking is 16th in the nation. Oregon's is 37th

So if they need money due to the current huge budget deficit, then I guess I'll pay a little more for my beer. Seeing as how Oregon currently has the 48th LOWEST beer tax in the whole country. |

NBD. I always hated paying state income tax until I actually googled it and decided, well, it could be a whole lot worse. Tax's suck, mostly because you cant decide where the money is going to gone.
At least all you young people on the forum will know where your tax dollars will go when you get to be my age----- they are going to pay for my new knees which I am going to bill to medicare. |
