A good choice for editing HD video with a less than powerful PC is Ulead Video Studio. It creates a proxy file to use when editing. The proxy file is small, so editing is easy and quick. When you're ready to render, all of the changes are applied to the HD file. Rendering takes a LONG time of course. Just start it when you're done with the PC for the night... One caveat, VideoStudio is unstable on some systems. Definitely try the trial version before you shell out for it...
This is not pro level software, but it does the basics and is pretty easy to use.

ONAD, ditto on the vegas software. Not to bad on my dual core PC actually but then again I'm not using the janky AVCHD compression (which is why I use tapes).
Anywho it is a fairly straightforward interface and is really stable. |

quick one for nak
i use photoshop some, gimp some, fireworks a lot. they are all cool. photoshop is definitely the leader in this space and certainly has the most books, mags, articles, web info. i saw something about photoshop express today, it is photoshop lite and online, thought i'd mention it to you. Looks cool, and free, does the basic stuff.
interface is flex/flash based, looks sweet. rock it and let us know
