Kiting in the backcountry and not bringing skins/telescoping poles and randonee bindings is like driving to Vegas with a beater Pinto with used tires with no tread.....not smart.

I can't remember the last time I kiting any closer than a mile to the road, through knee deep pow--that's a long slog. It's 90% of the reason I don't get on my board that much in the winter, the possibility for post-holing for miles just doesn't appeal to me.

Naxo or Marker Duke's are the weapon of choice out here in Fairfield, plus if the wind dies you can still bag a peak and get some DH turns in.....not ideal but better than walking out.

I was really fortunate for the hospitality down in UT, I got to stay with Ozone crew and had the opportunity to ride with a couple pro French riders days before the event.(GG from Airrush and ATN from F-one) so you kinda have to step it up the best you can. When the the snow is fresh it's not hard to send it though. Had a rad time with the one and only Stringy, and Mike Hill and Joaquin completed the snowkite posse. We had so many highlights and a few bummers. I didn't keep the SKM title this year. I made it to the finals but got wrapped with another rider at the first tack. In hindsight I was over aggressive and picked a poor starting position, pretty much a shoulda, coulda, woulda, situation. I was bummed but not pissed because it all apart of the game and the spectators love the carnage.

Over the past few weeks I got to ride a shit ton, I would have to estimate over a 1000 miles of terrain riding. I got to meet riders from all over the world and ton of core locals from MT,ID,UT,CO,WY, and we all have that same snowkite passion. One of the coolest things is to see this sport progression grow and grow, but also keep it's focus on the important things like Access and safety. After shooting the shit with dozens of industry vendors alot of company's are really starting to grasp and market to snow side of things. For instance seeing J.Doyle out there riding on snow, seeing big brands like Rossignal, Mystic, BD, further design snowkite specif products. It's a no brainer that this will help strengthen the overall growth of kite brands, which may be an important part in keeping more kite brands in business for years to come.

Well off to "Da Hood" for the summer, starting a new position for Winddance board shop. It will be weird finally being a true HR local. Of course I will have a "open door" policy to the PSkiters, maybe even setup a Tepe in the backyard on the big weekends.

i think I was the only one hiking!
brett actually we never hiked into an area to kite. the skyline rigging area is right at the parking lot, not really a "backcountry" spot. you could kite all the way over to the top of the cornice. when exploring the outer terrain, most of us stayed in a general group to "keep an eye" on each other. ocassionally, someone would get stuck in a hole and we'd hang out to see if they could make it out. leave no man behind. when I say I was the only one hiking, it was really to set up for a photo op. lots of post holing for me. the AT gear is nice, but I really didn't utilize it and I left my skins at home anyhow. I do like how the AT boots are a little softer so more comfortable for snowkiting and walking/rigging.

And good luck to Brad at Windance! they are getting a pretty good boy in their shop!

Nice pics stringy!!!!! The season opens up and I can't get in touch with my bro (brad), pure signs of an addict. Not returning phone calls and emails. Something about having to eat over paying cell phone bills(bum). Had to go to extreme measures and go public. Wasn't to hard to find out where an addict lurks with other addicts of course. Call mom turkey!!!

Sorry to interrupt fellas

Cheers
