There are two main spots, Kailua and Mokuleia. Kailua is on the Windward side (ENE) and Mokuleia is on the North shore. Kailua is good for all skill levels, Mokuleia is for advanced intermediates or better. Kailua depends on the trade winds, Mokuleia can get Thermal winds in the afternoon.

The launch at Kailua is Kailua beach park. There's a large sign that gives some rules for the launch there. Check with a local kiter before launching so they can fill you in on the spot. Kailua is constantly in danger of having kiteboarding banned, so use your head. Rig your kite up on the grass, then carry it down to the beach to launch.

Kailua can be awesome when it's good, but you could easily get skunked too... If at all possible, bring a lightwind kite too!

Have fun! Kailua is a great spot with a really fun local crew. Very Happy Very Happy

the spot in that pic is the best freeride spot on the island, bout 5 min from my old mans house
used to ride there a lot
but don't launch from the spot where that pic was taken or you could get a beat down
you must launch on the beach you see in the distance

ya i was in Kailua last summer and it was great but the launch. The launch area is very small and there are a couple of tree hazards, but other than that its great. You have flat water and waves there which is really nice.
