President Barack Obama's Inaugural Address by David Bergman
By: David Bergman (DavidBergman) on January 22, 2009

I made this Gigapan image from the north press platform during President Obama's inaugural address at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, DC on January 20, 2009. It's made up of 220 images and the final image size is 59,783 X 24,658 pixels or 1,474 megapixels.
There are a few known stitching errors in the image. A NEW VERSION of the photo with all of the stitching errors corrected can be seen here: |

RED's new EPIC 617 sensor will do half of that resolution in one shot, at up to 30fps VIDEO!
28K = 261 megapixel video.

Very cool. It would be great to have a photo like that of the spit or Stevenson in the Summer! |

| Man, it's amazing how technology advances. In the early `90's I worked on a high-speed image mosaic system made possible by 1 Gigabyte hard drives breaking the $1000 barrier. The computer was made up of 9 drives and several boards about the size of a small beer fridge. We sold it to the Israeli and US governments, and I remember having to run in and out of a room with a general to tweak the system because my security hadn't cleared yet. He showed me one declassified image of the Kuwaiti desert (30,000' aerial thermal imaging) and asked me to zoom in on a bridge. We kept zooming in and filtering the image and discovered trucks parked under it. As we zoomed further we were able to make out that the trailers had open roofs with scud missiles sticking out of them. He asked me the simple question: "why would you build a bridge in the middle of a desert?" |
