I saw the recent posts on the deceiver bag. Are you guys getting by without the oversize fee? I seem to remember being tagged with oversize with deceiver type bag before. Also, if you are being charged anyway, do they care if you are over 50 lbs?
I was thinking of buying a dakine world traveler type bag for lugging the surfboard around. Anyone have experience with this? Does it work well? What kinds of charges at the airport should I expect? (unless of course my charms work on the luggage lady - ha! ) _________________ Does this cover my thunder? |

the deceiver bag has worked well for me (think that is about as large as a bag that will pass under the radar) - the 50lb mark is real if they make you weigh it - $10 or $20 goes a long way at curbside... _________________ Go Deep!

I have had no problems with the NSI bag as long as its under 50 lbs. The only time I even had anyone ask about it was the bitch in Hawaii that seems to hate kiteboarders. I've taken it on 3 flights in the last month with no problem.

How About options for surfboards? I cant cram my 5'6'' into the deceiver. What do you guys who travel with the kite srufboards do? Or do you leave them behind and a buy/rent a board when you get there? _________________ Does this cover my thunder? |

| for surfboards i use a simple dakine surfboard bag, i used to use a day bag but recently got one with a bit more padding. gorge performance has a ton of them and they are around $100. i wrap the rails with foam pipe insulation and put a small amount of cardboard around the tip and tail. i also put my twin tip on top of it. all kite gear goes in a duffle bag. i have been charged only once for the surfboard while flying delta. this has worked perfectly on many flights with 0 damage. if i get charged i get charged. having my own gear dialed in is worth the risk. |
