Sun Dec 28, 08 7:27 am Glide in a deceiver?? |
|
|
| I am heading down to baja in a few weeks and I'm taking my NSI deceiver bag, I've been considering getting a SS Glide but I don't know if it will fit. Anyone ever crammed a Glide in a deceiver? |

It fits, but just barely. It has to be the first thing you put in the bag. It also matters which end of the bag you start with, but I can't remember which end that is. Just try starting at one end & switch if it doesn't work. If the glide was .5 centimeter longer, I don't think it would fit. Have fun! |

My fuse fits so the glide should. If it doesn't, cut it in half and bring some white glue to put it back together when you get there. |

I'm with Nak on this one. The Glide will fit but just barely. You have to poke one end of your Glide deep into the bottom of the Deceiver, then the far end of the zipper will tightly make it past the board. One more cm and it would've been a no-go. _________________ CGKA Member

| Once the board is in, zipping should be pretty easy? I'm not sure how you have your board in the bag, but I've not had a problem getting it zipped. I put the Glide, another board, two kites & misc gear in the deceiver. BTW, I remove the straps & pads & handle from the glide. |

i've tried but couldn't fit it in. I'm now wondering how one can pack a glide and multiple kites, and possibly a second board, and still keep the weight down.
For me, I prefer to not travel with a glide.
I'll admit the glide will get you on the water in just about any wind. I enjoy riding mine. But if I have to travel where I may need a light wind board, I think I would reconsider my kiting destinations.
Since you are headed to baja, you really can get by without one. Baja is more about the downwinders anyways and the bay is like a giant catcher's mitt. you just need to walk back up if you can't stay upwind.
I do like the white glue idea. _________________ www.jimstringfellow.com |

The weight isn't always an issue for me. You're right though, you definitely need to weigh your bag & make sure it stays under 50#.
I'm a big believer in bringing a Glide. There are a lot of times where it's turned what would have been a disappointing trip into a great memory. That said, if you can plan your trip solely around the wind you may not need one. I'd agree with Stringy that you probably don't need one in La Ventana.
I wonder if there's different versions of the deceiver? If they made one with the zipper just a tiny bit shorter, it wouldn't work with the Glide... |

good points. i think the answer is screw the glide and buy a nice skimboard. They are lighter, pack easier and are allot more fun in light winds than a glide is.
both 2nd wind in HR and gorge poof-formance have decent skims in stock. |

That 09 Glide is lookin sweet!
Tons of flex in this years glide for more pop, better upwind performance then a skim and will give you more low end for your kite. And made with USA pride.
For those who don't want ride strapless the 09 Glide could be a choice. _________________ https://www.hipcamp.com/discover/washington/windwoodrivers

| I can stuff 3 kites w/o bags and 2 boards in my deceiver and keep in under 50#. I'm headed to LB not LV so downwinders aren't the greatest and there have been plenty of days of sitting on the beach down there wishing I had just a little bigger board..... |

sounds to me like the real issue is not to glide or not to glide, its your vacation destination spot. |

| It's usually windy, but I only get 2 to 3 weeks in and I want to be kiting every day. Besides I dig LB, been going there for years and they have the best papa pollos!! |

If the Glide in the deciever bag seems to be a question, is there any other bags out there where a Glide might fit a little better, (2 boards, 2 kites, and a harness - I figure I can toss the bars-straps in my carry on to keep weight down)....?
Thanx |
