Mon Jan 05, 09 10:22 pm slingshot chicken loop release issues |
|
|
So the last time I was out kiting I was having an issue with my SS REV bar. When unhooking and hooking back in, I kept hitting the red safety release knob and my chicken loop would come undone. Which is annoying as hell because they are kind of a pain in the arse to get back together when your hands are cold.
Someone on the beach was mentioning the bungie getting worn? or the sleeve moving down or something. I was busy getting drunk and packing up gear so I thought I would figure it out later. and now it is later.
thanks for any help. |

I'd try the sleeve first. On the actual chicken loop itself, you'll see a black band (slighter larger diameter tubing) on the side with the quick release. As the spectra core of the chicken loop stretches over time, the band starts to move further away from the main assembly. This in turn lets the quick release metal pin ride slightly out of the red release knob when there is no load on the loop (ie. when you're unhooked). Then it just takes a little tap/pull/hit of the knob to eject.
To fix, first, remove the little phillips screw from the sleeve. Lube up the chicken loop itself above the sleeve with whatever you desire, then try to slide the sleeve up while keeping tension on the loop (keeping the metal pin pulled down). Once you've got it up as far as it'll go, reinstall the screw. This should keep the pin tight, and require a full "stroke" to fire the emergency.
If you're really shit-faced, I'll post a few pics. |

| My friend was riding his SS T3 on Saturday, and his quick release was accidentally activated. Off to the races he went, swimming for his kite (yes i know..... he didn't have his leash on) When he was pulled to his kite from kiter assist bro, and finally made it back to land, we checked the tension on his red button bungie, and it seemed way too loose. I think he tried to tie a knot lower on the bungie to add more tension? Maybe a quick fix? |

Yep, that's standard operating procedure - good to re-adjust every time you change out your chicken loop line - works like new. _________________ Go Deep!
